Corren Ray

Corren Issac Ray was the first born to Alice and Nelson Issac on November 15,1915 in Williston, S.C. Corren was raised in a strong spiritual family where she learned the good-old-southern value of “Love of God” and family. “This is what became “Mama Ray’s” reason for living, loving and praying to God and Loving and Praying for her family!Corren was educated in the Public Schools of Williston where she was an assistant-teacher for a short time. Until her early twenties, Corren lived at home helping to raise her brothers and sisters. Corren met and married George D. Ray, Sr., and moved to Charleston, S.C., eventually they bought a home in Baltimore City where they raised their family. Corren always believed Family came first and she wore her “Homemaker” title proudly even when she briefly worked outside the home, she quickly decided she was needed more at home for her husband and children. Corren would always be there making a way for them, always having a place for her family to come to have a meal or even stay if they needed. This was Corren’s way, because family was always “most important’ to her, which anyone would know soon after meeting her and family and friends would be reminded often by receiving one of her early-early morning “How’s Things” phone calls or her mid-evening “What are you cooking for dinner”? calls-all just to let you know she was thinking of you- “her family” and that she was praying for you and you should be saying your Prayers too! That was Corren’s way,Don’t worry about it-Pray abut it, put it in the Lord’s hands, because “PrayerChanges Things,” she’d say. Corren knew this first hand and wanted her family to know it too! If Corren met you, you would be treated as if you were family, with unconditional love, whatever she had, be it a little or a lot-family had it too! That was Corren’s way.Corren’s legacy to us all is her teachings of loving the Lord, the power of Prayers and the unconditional Love for Family. Corren woke with Prayers of Thanksgiving and went to sleep with Prayers for all of us always, from her first days to her last.Her husband, George; sons, Wyman, Elliott and Issac preceded Coreen in death: daughters, Frances and Evelyn; four grandchildren. Corren is survived by a devoted daughter and sons, Betty Ray Young, George D. Ray, Jr., and Rev, Willie Ray, thirteen-grand-children, twenty-three great-grandchildren, one great-grand-child, two sisters, Julia and Maggie and host of nieces, nephews, cousin and friends.
