Clifton H. Smith

Clifton Henry Smith, affectionately known as "Cliff' was born to the late Phillip and Catherine Smith on February 5, 1959 in Warrenton, North Carolina. He departed this life suddenly on Monday, February 16,2015. Clifton and his family lived briefly in North Carolina and Richmond Virginia. They settled in Baltimore, Maryland in 1967. He accepted Christ at an early age. He received his formal education in the Baltimore City Public School System, graduating from Northwestern High School in 1977. Also, he attended Coppin State College, majoring in Psychology. In 2002, he attended Gordon Phillips Beauty School successfully receiving his Barbering license. He was proud to say that he was a Barber and loved cutting hair. In 2011, he attended All-State Career for Electrical Systems Technology in which he was Valedictorian of his class. He always enjoyed learning new things. You could say he was a Jack of All Trades - in fact he used to operate a seafood truck! Clifton held various jobs but his most fulfilling one was working with individuals with intellectual disabilities. He worked at Chosen, Center for Social Change and St. Elizabeth School. He was inspiring and extremely well liked. Clifton was very outgoing and generous. He made numerous friends wherever he would go, you could say he was the "Life a/the Party". He had many hobbies and interests such as: cooking, drawing, cutting hair, singing, playing cards, fishing/crabbing, shooting pool, and DJ'ing. He truly loved his music; he loved playing for family events and making personalized CDs. If you ever had a C Dog Production personalized CD from him than you knew he put his heart and soul into it. Cliff was always eager to go to North Carolina (he loved staying with his cousin Phyllis). He just loved spending time with his family especially his children and grandchildren. He took pride in being called Pop-Pop. Cliff also loved reading the Bible and had a personal relationship with God. He was very excited that he had read the bible twice, in its entirety. He always said each time he read a scripture that he would receive a different perspective about it. He loved sharing the Word with others. Clifton became a member of New Fellowship Christian Community Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Kevin Rodgers. In 2013, he and his youngest son (Lil Clift) were baptized together. Cliff was described by many as Caring. He had a heart of gold and would help a stranger. He also took great pride in caring for his father when he was ill. Cliff will be greatly missed for his kind and gentle spirit. Clifton leaves to mourn his loving memory, three children: Angela; Eric and Clifton Jr.; two granddaughters: Breniya and Wynter; two brothers: Kevin and Andre; one sister: Benita; one brother-in-law: Gregory Billy; two sister-in-Iaws: D'Shanna Jackson-Smith and Barbara Smith; five uncles: James Ed, Sterling, Henry, Elbert and Calvin; six aunts: Mary, Kate, Arlene, Carrie, Minnie and Henrietta and a host of family & friends. Clifton was preceded in death by his loving parents: Phillip and Catherine Smith and his son-in-law: Dominic Winder.
