Clarance Sampson Sr.

CLARENCE SAMPSON, affectionately known as “Goatman”, departed this life quietly and passed into eternal peace on Tuesday, August 6, 2024. He was born in Marian County, South Carolina on Thursday, March 9, 1939. He was the first child of the late James (YW) Sampson and Edna Sampson. He was one of eighteen siblings. As a young man Clarence relocated to Baltimore, Maryland from South Carolina to be with his brother Edward and Cousin Thomas Phillips. He received his education in South Carolina. Clarence was well known to his family and friends as Goatman. He gained employment at Bon Secours Hospital, and Rice’s Bakery. later, he found employment with Kennecott Copper Corp. and worked there until the doors were closed. Then he found employment with Future-Care Homewood/ Nursing Home in Baltimore; He worked there until his health began to fail, and then, he retired! Clarence met the former Ethel Lee through a friend. They were united in Holy Matrimony on August 15, 1964, by the late Reverend Edmond D. Meade, Pastor of the Israel Baptist Church of Baltimore City. They would have been married on August 15, 2024, for 60 years. From this union, they were blessed with two sons, Clarence Jr. and Keonte Lamar. Goatman was loved by all who knew him. Although, he was quiet, he would associate with anyone. He especially loved talking and being with his brother Edward, Uncle John Henry and his cousin Thomas. After work, sometimes, they would get into their cars and drive down to South Carolina for the weekend. Clarence joined the fellowship of the Israel Baptist Church of Baltimore City under the leadership of the late Rev. Edmond D. Meade, Pastor. later he united with the Zion Baptist Church in Baltimore under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Marshall F. Prentice, Pastor. He enjoyed attending church on Sundays. He always had a positive attitude, beautiful smile and a wonderful personality. He enjoyed being with his sons on their outings and attending family reunions. This year 2024, he was not able to attend the reunion in Virginia, but his heart was with them. On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Clarence Sampson transitioned from this earthly journey to his eternal home. He has reunited with his parents, James and Edna Sampson, and his siblings Edna Mae, Ruby Lee, Randy, La Mar “BO”, Edward, Helen, Artelia, Marion, and James, Jr. Clarence leaves precious memories to his devoted and loving wife, Ethel, his devoted sons, Keonte Lamar and Clarence Jr. and his three sons, Andre, Norman and Nelson; his daughter, Alison Smith and her son, William; his siblings, Charles Sampson, Latta, SC, Samuel Sampson, Atlanta, GA, Linda Fairley, Fayetteville, NC, Steven Fairley, Long Island, NY, Liliah Sampson, Latta, SC and Diane Sampson, Hopewell, VA; his 100-year-old Auntie Roberta Sampson Phillips; sister-in-law, Sylvia Sampson; two special cousins, Dr. Odessa D. Dorkins and Thomas Phillips; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends
