Cheryl R. Hopson

MINISTER CHERYL ROMONA HOPSON was born on June 30, 1953 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Cecil and Helen Johnson. The second eldest of 7 children, Cheryl often served as the rock of her family in the absence of her hardworking mother. Affectionately known to her family as “Nunie”, she experienced a childhood filled with family, friends, and fun. She was educated in the Baltimore City Public School system and graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High in 1971. She attended Villa Julie College where she earned an Associate’s degree in Business Administration. While a student, she sang on the choir and often took her younger sister Wanda to concerts with her. Cheryl met the love of her life, Lawrence Hopson, Sr. And married him on November 2, 1984. Their love for each other was evident and infectious to everyone them. As a result Of their love and adherence to God’s command to “be fruitful and multiply” they had their first child Lawrence, Jr. on June 19, 1986, Lawrence, Jr. enjoyed being an only child until December 1, 1994 when his younger sister Helen Mariah was born. She made friends whenever she went and was always the life of the party. She was known as a fashionista and Head Diva to her family and displayed a zest for life that was expressed through her love of spending time with her husband, children, family, and friends. She was a devout Christian, a faithful member of living Word Ministries, and was always ready to share the love of Christ with anyone she encountered. Cheryl was an active Deaconess in her Church until December 14, 2003 when she became a minister within the living Word Ministries family. Following God’s will, she lived a “blessed And highly favored” life. She worked for Morgan State University as an assistant to the director of recruitment in the Admissions Department for more than 30 years and retired in 2013. Cheryl passed away on Tuesday evening surrounded by a party of family and friends. She has “fought the good fight, she has finished her course, kept her faith, and is prepared to wear her crown of righteousness” (2Timothy 4:7-8). She will be sincerely missed by everyone who knew her, but the memory of her kind and warm spirit will remain. She leaves to mourn: her husband, Lawrence Edward Hopson, Sr.(preceding her in death); her children, Lawrence Edward Hopson, Jr. and Helen Mariah Hopson; her devoted “little” sister, Wanda Richardson; her younger brother, Tony Johnson, Jr; her sisters, Valerie, Brenda, and Sandra; and her brother, Cecil (preceding her in death); along with a host of other relatives, church family and friends.
