Charles Linwood Atkins,Jr

Charles “Wolf” Linwood Atkins was called home by God to eternal rest on November 27, 2012, after a lengthy illness. He fought a courageous battle and endured it with great dignity and pride. He was born on July 19, 1949 in the Henrico County to Amanda Bagby Atkins and the late Ernest M. Atkins. Charles was preceded in death by his father, Ernest M. Atkins and stepdaughter Pamela Burton-Jean. He attended and Henrico County Public Schools and graduated from Varina High School. Charles accepted Christ at an early age and joined Gravel Hill Baptist Church in Varina. Charles was employed at the International Paper Company for approximately 18 years as a supervisor until the plant closed, other full-time employment included Powhatan correctional Center as a security guard and Wilson construction company (19 years) until his health failed. Charles’ part-time employment included working for Betsi Wilton, Ann Hogg, Gray Smyth, and at the St. Luke Episcopal Church. Charles was a gifted and dedicated employee, known as someone who carried a high degree of pride in his work no matter the task. An avid New York Yankees fan, Charles had a great passion and talent for the game. Charles played on various baseball teams; GRTC, Trouble, Barrett Brothers and Goochland Recreation Center. His past time hobbies were hunting, baseball and traveling. Charles always looked forward to traveling with his wife, Brenda. Their travels included Jamaica, Belize, Cozumel, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Mississippi and New Jersey just to name a few. When not traveling, you could find Charles busy with his hands doing various handyman jobs. He was a dedicated and loving father to his grandson, Jontae Jean whom he took in and raise as his own after the passing of Jontae’s mother. Child leaves to cherish his memories, his beloved and devoted wife, Brenda Burton Atkins of 28 years; daughter, Monica Atkins, son, Charles “C.J.”Atkins,Jr., to stepdaughters Marcie (Mike) Trent,Canyetta Starks;five grandchildren.Cierra,Javon,Mike,Jr.Kyleah and Jayden;mother,Amanda Atkns,two brothers,Ernest and Albert Atkins;one sister,Betty (Raymond)Skipper;two brothers-in-law,Ernest,Calvin(Mary)Burton;two sisters-in-law,Celestine(Preston)Cox and Virginia (Arthur)Clark;three devoted friends,David and Nancy Drake and BJ Challenor and a host of uncles,aunts,nieces,nephews,cousins and friends.
