Cattie R. Chisholm

Cattie Ruth Chisholm was born Cattie Ruth Stevenson on June 17, 1938 in Winnsboro, South Carolina to the late Lewis and Bessie Stevenson. Eleven children were born out of this loving union, Samuel, Annabelle, Johnnie Mae, Asie Lee, Lewis Jr, Lucy Jane, Leonard, Cattie Ruth, Willie Mack, Lillie Mae, and Edward. They all grew up on the family farmland Cattie attended Fairfield County School System and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1957. She relocated to Baltimore, where some of her siblings resided and began to pursue her dreams to find a lifetime career and start a family. This is where she met and married Sylesslie Chisholm who preceded her in death. She joined the New Friendship Baptist Church and served on the Usher Board Ministry and the Kitchen Ministry, which she absolutely loved for years until her health began to fail her. Cattie was a phenomenal cook, and her house is where the family gathered for family visits and especially for the holidays. She was famous for her soul food and enjoyed cooking just as much as she enjoyed a nice card game of “Spades” or “Tunk”. No matter whose house the family met up at, she was the “Queen of Spades” and the family knew it. Although everyone knew her as Cat, a couple of her sisters addressed her as Cathy. Cat was such a hard worker. She worked for years for a card company, stocking cards at Rite-Aid. She also worked for 25 years in custodial services at Morgan State University and was most fortunate to live a long life after her retirement from Morgan State University. Cat then continued to hustle and often co-workers and friends would come to her house to pick up dinners, pies, and her infamous “stickers”. By the way, and STILL none of the family knows the “stickers” recipe except two, guess who? Cattie Chisholm lived her life as a widow and raised two sons, Stephen Chisholm, aka Moe (who preceded her in death) and Stuart Little. She also was a care provider for many years for her mother (Bessie) and her sister (Asie Lee). She leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Stuart, one daughter in law, Marquitta Chisholm, five grandchildren, Jennifer Chisholm, Stuart Little, Jr., Quan Little-Johnson, Brittany Johnson, and Stephen Chisholm Jr. aka Lil Moe, two greatgrandchildren, Maya Smith, and Lameak Folks, one sister, Lucy Battle, one brother-in-law, James Battle, two brothers, Willie Mac Stevenson and Edward Stevenson, two sisters in law, Alberta Stevenson and Willeter Stevenson, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends, including beloved neighbors and prior coworkers.
