Catherine Simpson

Mrs. Catherine Woods Simpson, The Matriarch of the Simpson family and daughter of the late Willie Woods and Elizabeth Hill (the youngest of four siblings) was born on January 29, 1928, in Alamance County, North Carolina. One sister Mary Alice Torain survives Catherine, and one sister Martha Fuller Rankin, one brother George E. Woods, one son Coy W. Woods and one granddaughter Phyllis Mason, all preceded her in victory.Her formative years of education were lived in Burlington, North Carolina. Upon completion of her education Catherine worked full time for approximately forty-three years as a domestic worker. She began her walk with the Lord when the Reverend A.J. Miles baptized her on June 20, 1985 in Burlington, North Carolina. She continued her spiritual walk when she joined him as a faithful member at The Refuge Way of the Cross Church of Christ in Baltimore, Maryland for more than twenty-six year. Her commitment and faith to Christ led her victoriously as a member, mother, grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and friend.Catherine was married, and out of the union six children was born, Norma, Coy, Janet, Doris, Chris and George. She was a devoted and passionate mother who was always committed to loving and nurturing each one, no matter the situation. This love and compassion also resonated to her grandchildren as well as her great-great grandchildren and friends.She lived at her residence in the Ellerslie Building for many years in which she displayed a character of inspiration to all who came in contact with her. From these many friendships, she developed a close bond with Mary and Ms. Snead. Catherine was a very compassionate and caring person and touched the lives of many who often came back to say, “Thank You”. She was also willing to pray and give spiritual guidance to both her family and friends.“Pilgrim,” as she was gently called by her loving son George, will always be remembered as a very truthful and outspoken person who only had one’s best interest at heart.She leaves o morn; a loving and devoted sister, Mary Alice Torain; five children Norman, Janet, Doris, Christine and George; eleven grandchildren, Mary, Annette, Crystal, Telly, Gregory, Tracey, Bryant, Nicole, Marcus, Jonathan and Michael; twenty-six great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; son-in-law, Bruce Siedel; daughter-in-law, Shelia Redd-Simpson; goddaughter, Sharon and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
