Carolyn Jennings

Carolyn A. Jennings, was born on September 2, 1946, in Baltimore, Maryland, the second of six children born to the late Daniel A. Jennings and Betty L. Jennings. With grace and quiet strength, she placed her hand in God’s hand on February 16, 2026, and peacefully entered her eternal home. From an early age, Carolyn’s life was enriched by curiosity, culture, and exploration. Her family loved to travel, journeying across the United States and abroad, and spending weekends visiting parks, beaches, historic landmarks, and educational sites. These experiences helped shape her lifelong appreciation for learning and adventure. As she grew, Carolyn developed a passion for music—playing the piano—along with a love for tennis, theatre, and the smooth rhythms of jazz. A distinguished scholar, Carolyn excelled throughout her educational journey. She attended Baltimore City public schools and proudly graduated from Western High School, Class of 1964, where she embraced extracurricular activities and embodied the school’s motto, “Lucem Accepimus, Lucem Demus”—"Having received the light, let us give the light." She carried that spirit throughout her life, generously sharing her wisdom, kindness, and insight with all she encountered. In 1965, Carolyn began her studies at Morgan State University, majoring in Physics and becoming a dedicated member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science in Physics. Driven by ambition and intellect, she continued her academic pursuits at Penn State University, earning a Master of Science in Computer Science. Her commitment to excellence led her to obtain additional credentials, including PMI and IBM Project Manager certifications, a master’s certificate in Project Management, and a second Master of Science in Organization and Management. Carolyn built a remarkable career with IBM Corporation, serving in Maryland and Texas from 1979 to 2005. She was promoted in 1984 and relocated to Plano, Texas, where she excelled as a Project Manager. In 1988, she married Robert Tate, a union that lasted five years. While in Texas, Carolyn became a Charter Member of the Plano North Metroplex Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, serving faithfully as Corresponding Secretary, Program Chair, Strategic Planning Chair, and a member of the Executive Board. Upon returning to Baltimore in 2010, Carolyn continued her service-oriented leadership by contributing to local programs, serving as Strategic Planning Chair and Treasurer within the Harbor City Chapter of the Links, Inc. She further shared her time and talents with Windsor Hills Neighbors, Inc., remaining active in community service well into her retirement. Throughout every chapter of her life, Carolyn was known for her steadfast excellence, impeccable character, and generous spirit. She was beautiful, thoughtful, caring, and insightful—always offering mentorship, encouragement, and enlightenment to others. Blessed by God’s grace and mercy, Carolyn lived 79 years filled with love, faith, wisdom, joy, resilience, and a deep devotion to family. She cherished her loved ones and upheld strong family values that will continue to guide and inspire generations. To cherish her memory, Carolyn leaves her loving brother Victor Jennings; two nieces, Tonja Adams and Shercese Jennings; five great-nieces and nephews—Mercedes Griffin, Kahlil Elijah, Jada Alston, Eric Freeman, and Kiana Simmons; and five great-great-nieces and nephews—DeMarco Ingram, Darria Griffin, Darriel Mayo, Kaylee Elijah, and Charlee Elijah. She will also be remembered by extended family, dear friends, sorority sisters, former colleagues, and all whose lives were brightened by her presence. Her light will continue to shine through the many hearts she touched.
