Brandon M. Cherry

BRANDON MARTEZ CHERRY, a loving, caring and devoted son, brother, great-grandson, grandson and nephew, departed this life on Wednesday, October 12, 2005, after twenty-one years of servitude and a willingness of self-sacrificing for others. Brandon was baptized at Wilson Park Christian Community Church. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. He attended Baltimore City public schools, a graduate of Mergenthaler Vocational Technical High School Class of 2002, where he played varsity football from 1998-2002. Brandon enjoyed playing football, defensive/offensive lineman for the Mervo Mustangs. While attending Mervo and playing on the varsity football team, Brandon earned the 2000 Mervo Varsity Football Iron Man, 2001 Unsung Hero, 2001 Super 22 Defense, 2001 Unsung Hero for Powerful Performance on the Gridiron and the 2002 Unsung Hero Award. Brandon attended Baltimore City Community College while participating in the Morgan State University's Connect Program (2003-2004). Brandon also enjoyed writing, drawing and his "Sponge Bob Collection" (smile). Brandon leaves to cherish his memories: his loving and devoted mother, Robin R. Cherry of Baltimore, MD; his loving father, James L. Holmes, Jr. (step-mother, Ronette) of Baltimore, MD; two sisters, Monique and Cierra Holmes of Baltimore, MD; one step-brother, Darryl of Baltimore, MD; two great grandmothers, Martha Daniels of Whitakers, N.C. and Nezzie Weldon of Smithfield, N.C.; grandparents, Barbara Lee Cherry (Stuart), George and Ruth Cherry, all of Baltimore, MD and James L. Holmes, Sr. of Smithfield, NC; a host of great-great aunts, great-great uncles, great aunts, great uncles; three aunts, Mary Fenner of Hampton, VA, Chavon Mabry (Earl) of Rocky Mount, NC and Stephanie Cherry (Vanni) of Baltimore, MD; two uncles, Lorenzo Fenner of Hampton, VA and George L. Cherry, Sr. of Baltimore, MD; and a host of cousins and friends. Brandon was preceded in death by his grandmother, Joelyn Sanders (2000) of Smithfield, NC; great-great grandmother, Martha Louise Henry (1998) of Frederick, MD and Aunt Lisa L. Bright. "Granny, Ms. Joe and Lisa, here comes 'My Brandon', keep him under your wings, until we all meet again.
