Betty Ann McFadden Cooper

BETTY ANN COOPER (McFADDEN), daughter of the late Thomas L. and Annie B. McFadden, was born on July 6, 1936 in Florence County, South Carolina. She quietly departed this life on Wednesday, September 8,2010. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Sumter, South Carolina and Cortez Peters Business School in Baltimore, Maryland. Upon completion of her education, she became an employee of Social Security Administration. Betty held numerous positions in various departments during her forty-one years of service before retiring as a management analyst in 1999. Betty was baptized at an early age when she joined Jordan Chapel Baptist Church in Olanta, South Carolina. Upon leaving South Carolina she made her home in Baltimore, Maryland where she met and married the late Harold O. Davis. Out of this union one son was born, Harold O. Davis, Jr. who preceded her in death. In 1965 she was united in marriage to Irvin Cooper. Out of this union one daughter, Diona was born. Betty’s love for music started at the early age of five.. She frequently entertained family and friends with her singing and playing the piano. Her love for singing God’s Praise continue as an adult with the Social Security Chorus, Heath Gospel Singers, Voices of Freedom and All of God’s Children. Betty was a devoted member of First Abyssinia, she utilized her gifts and talents to serve the body of Christ as musician, directress and member of numerous choirs. Her theme song was “A Brand New Life”. Betty received outstanding round-the-clock care from her caregivers Shirley and Michael Levy. The family “adopted” her as their “Grandma”. One week before her death, Betty received the baptism in Jesus Name and filled with the Holy Ghost. She leaves to cherish loving memories: her husband, Irvin Cooper; daughter, Diona Johnson; stepsister, Deborah Gardner; two sister-in-law, Jeanette Littlejohn (Fayetteville, NC) and Louise Gilliard; son-in-law, Cermontina (Marty) Johnson; six grandchildren, Latasha, Danae, Cermontina 3rd , (Marty), Danisha, Shaun, Destiny; great-grandson, Karon; five brothers-in-law and five sister-in-law; devoted caregivers Shirley and Michael Levy; a host of nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends.
