Bettie Mae Pope

Bettie was born to the late Gladys M. and Tarlton T. Hortman on October 2, 1942. She was preceded In death by her parents, her husband, Thomas W. Pope, Sr., her sister, Peggy Lewis and brothers, Edward Hartman and Alfred Goode. Bettle attended Richmond City Public Schools and graduated from Moggie L Walker High School. Bettle was a talented designer, seamstress and decorator. She has designed and sewn casual outfits, wedding gowns, debutonte ball gowns, choir robes, suits, draperies and other Items for many people around the Richmond area. She designed most outfits that she wore herself and was known for being a fashion "Dlva" . Her creative talents in decorating could take any decor from ordinary to extraordinary. Bettie wos also a gifted songstress, hovlng bean a member of the Koprls, that sang around the Richmond area. Later, Bettie was the Dlrectress of the Gospel Splrltualettes and The Voices of Hope Choir. Bettie also enjoyed many years slnglng with The Passion Choir and traveled with them across Vlrglnlo presenting the play, The Passion. Most recent, Bettie was a member of the S.H. Thompson Memorial Choir of St. Peter Baptist Church. Bettie loved entertaining and being around her family and friends. She was known for sharing many recipes of love with others, Including her chicken and dumplings, Ice cream cakes, sweet potato pies, chocolate cakes, apple cobblers, 7-Up pound cakes, smothered chicken, spaghetti, pot roast, seafood salad, macaroni and cheese, corn pudding and many others. Bettle worked for Freeman and Marks. She later become employed by Wyeth Pharmaceuticals {formerly A.H. Robins), where she later retired. Bettle was baptized at a young age and attended Sixth Mt. Zion In her early years. She later joined Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church where she served on several ministries, Including the Deaconess Ministry. Bettie joined St. Peter Baptist Church where In addition to serving on the choir, she also served as a Yokefellow. She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted son and daughter-In-love, Thomas and Anna, three grandchildren, Kourtney, Thomas Ill, and Jordon, sisters, Sandra Peebles(Willle), Lillie Greenlee(Roy), Mlchelle Whlfe{James), brothers,Tarlton(Jane), Anthony Goode, many cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was dearly loved and wlll be missed by many.
