Bertha A. Wonson

BERTHA WONSON, beloved daughter of the late Octavious and Eliza Jones was born on October 22, 1935, in Northumberland County, Virgina. She was educated in the Northumberland County Public School System. Bertha dedicated her life to Christ at an early age. She was called to Glory on Saturday, May 2, 2026. Bertha moved to Baltimore after she met and married Clarence Wonson; and to that union they had eight children - Clarence, Sheryl, Timothy, Anthony, Jacqueline, Patricia, Robin and Keith. Bertha was a dedicated member and mother of Full Gospel Fellowship Church of Deliverance in Baltimore City. She served on the Mother’s Board. Bertha loved the Lord and she loved her Pastor and church family. Bertha worked various jobs as she raised her children. Their house was a home of love, laughter, and fun. Her kids were fairly good. There was one time when Timmy thought his Mom and Dad were asleep and came in late, past curfew, only to find them waiting on the other side of the door with a belt. Her nieces and nephews loved going to Aunt Bert’s house. She had a nickname for all of them. Bertha had a sweet spirit and cared about everyone. She was funny at heart and loved a good joke. She would spend half her day calling around checking on everyone. It would be nothing to pick up the phone and hear her say, “How You Doin’.” She loved watching soap operas and calling Alma and Etta to talk them over. She and Alma would stay on the phone day in and day out. They talked about everything and everybody. They had no secrets; they were thick as thieves. She loved reading her Bible and doing crossword puzzle books. She would sit at the window and people watch to pass the time. Bertha’s earthly journey is finished, and she is with the Lord. She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughters, Patricia and Robin; sons, Anthony and Keith; twenty-eight grandchildren, sixty-nine great-grandchildren and twenty-five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Alma; three sisters-in-law, Eunice, Hattie and Glenda; son-in-law, Daniel; daughter-in-law, Tracy; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Wonson, sons Clarence and Timothy, daughters Sheryl and Jacqueline, grandson Darren, three great-grandsons Ga’Briel, Kawuan and Tyjuan, son-in-law Kim, eleven sisters, Eula, Elizabeth, Catherine, Estelle, Ada, Elsie, Sophia, Olethia, Etta, Roxie and Beatrice, brother Robert; three sisters-in-law Elise, Paulette and Doris; and three brothers-in-law Richard, Johnny and Samuel.
