Bernie C. Davis

MR. BERNIE CORNELIUS DAVIS, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many, departed this life on December 31, 2025, at the age of 99. Bernie Cornelius Davis, or as he was affectionately known, “Bernie C.”, was born to the late Baldie and Elizabeth Davis on May 30, 1926, in Baltimore, Maryland. Bernie was the fifth of eight children. A devoted brother, even as a child, Bernie was particularly close to his oldest brother, Mike. A product of Baltimore City Public Schools, Bernie excelled in school, particularly in mathematics. Bernie attended Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School, dropped out of school, and obtained his GED so he could join the military. He faithfully served in the U.S. Army for 23 years, through three wars: World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, obtaining the rank of Master Sergeant. Excelling in science, he worked on applications involving the role of microwaves in communication, radar systems, electronic warfare, and weaponry. Upon retiring from the army, he worked at the U. S. Post Office for 20 years. Bernie was married to the love of his life, Alma Logan Davis, for 29 years. From this union, they had two children: Hiliary Grant Davis and Sherry Elaine Davis Molock. The family traveled extensively throughout the United States and overseas until they retired to Baltimore. After Alma’s untimely death, Bernie proved that even mature hearts can find love again when he fell in love with and married Ruth Jean Davis in 1984. After retiring from fulfilling careers, Bernie and Jean literally became globetrotters, cruising extensively throughout the world. They were married for 39 years until Jean passed in 2024. Bernie was a dedicated father and actively involved in the lives of his children who knew that they were loved and cherished. A beloved brother and uncle, he showed his family unconditional love by being dependable; he was the “go-to person” whenever someone was struggling, he was someone you could count on, and always there to lend a helping hand to those in need. While he was quiet and somewhat reserved, he had a wonderful, witty sense of humor, often catching his loved ones off guard with his dry sense of humor. He loved to give his children, nieces, and nephews strange nicknames and sometimes “theme songs” that would make everyone laugh. He was also a loyal, “ride-or-die” friend who enjoyed lifelong friendships with Bill Jones (an army buddy) and Robert Thompson, his beloved brother-in-law. Bernie is survived by his beloved children, Hiliary Davis and Sherry Davis Molock (Guy Molock, Jr.); sister, Beaulah Carr; grandchildren, Amber Molock, Jelani Molock, Diarra Molock and Terance Shipman; great-grandchildren, Makayla Molock and Oliyah Molock; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
