Beatrice Reid Tisdale

On January 20, 2016 an Angel was called home. Beatrice Reed Tisdale was born on January 21, 1927 to the late Lucius Greene and Lola Wilson, in Mecklenburg County Virginia. She was preceded in death by her Husband James Edward Tisdale Sr., Son James E. Tisdale Jr. and all ten of her siblings. She leaves to cherish her memory two children Creed Pernell Tisdale and Brenda Denise Tisdale of Richmond, Va; six grandchildren James Tisdale/Cheryl, Michael Tisdale, Dorian Tisdale/Tracey, (all of New Jersey), Samerra Tisdale-Jenkins/Marlon, Janell Adams, Lemuel Tisdale (all of Virginia); eighteen great-grandchildren De’lia, Kianme, Ti’ana, Tashiana, Zakea, Zakiya, Tyree, Jason, Dorian, Xavier, Jordan, James, Damani, Jamell, Keon, Marlon, Aidan, and Kylin; two great-great grandchildren Tyshawn and Cayden, devoted niece Cecil Berry, devoted health aide Elvira Fleming, and a host of other relatives and friends. Beatrice, affectionately known as “Bea” or “Smiley,” was educated and graduated from Mecklenburg County schools. After being courted by James E. Tisdale, they later married and moved to Yonkers, New York and started Tisdale’s Barbershop. From this beautiful union, three children were born - James Jr., Creed (Pernell), and Brenda. In 1966, the family moved to East Orange, New Jersey where Beatrice would spend the majority of life. While there, Beatrice always opened her home to family, friends and neighbors. Many can attest to the countless summers spent at the family home on Steuben Street. Known for her butter biscuits, sweet potato pies, bread pudding, and cakes, it was no wonder that Sundays became the pick-up day for orders and family gatherings. Beatrice also kept busy by not only being a homemaker, she was a day care provider and compassion companion to her neighbors and others. She always made sure that everyone was taken care of first, and would give her last to help the next person out. Everyone knew that she had a particular soft spot for the children, so no one messed with the babies! After the passing of her husband and then son, Beatrice moved to a senior living community where she continued to be herself and became a relied on part of the daily operations for over ten years. In 2003, she moved back home to her birth state of Virginia to be closer to her family immediate. Beatrice fought a long battle and she remained steadfast always. She is loved and will be sorely missed forever by all.
