Barbara Ann Brooks

BARBARA BROOKS, born January 17, 1949, in Baltimore, peacefully transitioned on April 10, 2026, surrounded by love and covered in God’s grace. She was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, where she built a life grounded in faith, family, and resilience. Barbara was born to the late Essie Mae Brown and John A. Brown Jr., who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Ralph Brown. She was a proud graduate of Frederick Douglass High School, Class of 1967, where she began shaping the strong and vibrant spirit that would define her life. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved daughter, Regina Brooks, who was her pride and joy, and her cherished granddaughter, Tamia Bullock, who brought her immense love and joy. Barbara was formerly married to Glen Brooks, with whom she shared a meaningful chapter of her life. She is also survived by her loving siblings: John Brown, Lonnie Brown, Lorraine Brown, Rickey Brown, and Wayne Brown; her sisters-in-law, Natalie Brown and Estha Brown; her nieces, Karissa Y. Williams, Keena Brown, Kyra Burse, Alenica Brown, Sherell Brown, Shanae Griffin, Shereace Brown, To’Meki Melton; her nephews, John E. Brown, Ralph Kareem Brown, and Wayan Dwon Brown; along with a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, and dear friends who will forever hold her in their hearts. Barbara accepted God at a young age at Perkins Square Baptist Church, laying a spiritual foundation that she carried with her throughout her life. Her love for the Lord was evident in her resilience, her compassion, and the way she showed up for those she loved. Barbara dedicated many years of service working at the State Office Building with the Maryland Department of Labor in the Office of Unemployment, as well as serving with the Maryland State Police. She was known for her strong work ethic, commitment, and dedication throughout her career. Barbara had a strong temperament, but a true heart of God. She was bold, unapologetically herself, and never afraid to stand in her truth. She was the heart, soul, and comic relief of family gatherings, bringing life, laughter, and energy into every room she entered. If Barbara was there, you felt it. She also had a love for travel, embracing new experiences and enjoying life in her own way. She believed in living fully, loving deeply, and standing firm in who she was. Barbara will always be remembered for her deep love for family, her undeniable presence, and her unwavering faith. Her legacy of strength, authenticity, and love will continue to live on through all who knew and loved her.
