Albert Guy Johnson

ALBERT GUY JOHNSON was born November 15, 1942, to the late Nathaniel Johnson and Clorine Cheatham Johnson. Albert was one of five children and was doted on by his mother. Albert was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. He had a myriad of jobs before settling into his career at the General Motors plant on Broening Highway. Albert spent 30+ years at GM before retiring. After retirement he had some small part-time jobs to keep himself busy until he took on the full-time role of before and after school care to his grandson Sean Knox. Albert Johnson, affectionally known as Big Al to family and friends, was a charismatic man. He met and married Brenda P. Johnson and had three children from the union: Andre Guy Johnson, LaTanya Elizabeth Johnson, and Myron Lee Johnson. Later Albert met and fell in love with Eleanor Edna (McNair) Johnson. The pair wed in 1973 and had two beautiful daughters: Shelley Nicole (Johnson) Knox and Shana Monique Johnson. Albert grew up on the West side of Baltimore and could tell you how to get anywhere in city without looking at a map. He loved his cars and he kept his cars clean! He was also a good cook despite being a picky eater - there would be no ‘rabbit food’ for him on his plate. Albert liked to play his numbers every day and transitioned into scratch offs later in life. Albert loved music, whether, Funk, Soul, Motown, Jazz, R&B, Hip-Hop, Rap or even some Afro-Centric jams. If Albert was near, so was music playing somewhere close by. He had an impressive vinyl record collection. If Albert wasn’t listening to music, he was watching the news to stay abreast of everything happening in the world. He loved to go to the Inner Harbor to visit the Maryland Science Center, then stop to get a slice of pizza and fresh fried dough. Albert lived a full life with the 9 lives of a cat. You would never catch Albert without one of his signatures Kangol’s, fedora or baseball hats adorning his crown, picture ready at any moment. Once Eleanor and Albert could no longer handle the steps at the family home, Albert went to live at Inspirations Assisted Living. During his last four years there, he made a whole new group of family and friends that he missed dearly. He was proceeded in death by his loving wife, Eleanor Johnson; son, Myron Lee Johnson and brother, Lloyd Bryant Johnson. Albert leaves to cherish his memory: his sister, Natalie Jean (Johnson) Boone; brothers, Nathaniel Jerry Johnson, and Joe Kerry Johnson Sr.; children, Andre Guy Johnson, LaTanya Elizabeth Johnson, Shelley Nicole (Johnson) Knox, Shana Monique Johnson; grandchildren, LaToya Delphynia Johnson, Kearvae Chaz Johnson Randolph, Keyon and Kenyon White, and Sean Nathaniel Knox; greatgrandchildren Kevin Tyler, Troy Tyler, LaTayia Tyler, Eli Johnson Jones, Royalty Bonaparte and Royalè Bonaparte; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Big Al will be forever remembered for his smile, his charm, his hats, his no-nonsense attitude, being the life of the party, and just a great person to be around when his spirits were high. He will be missed by everyone he met but has gone to join his wife who he truly missed.
