Yolanda Bodrick "Dolly" Hickman

Our beloved wife, stepmother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, godmother, cousin and friend, Yolanda Darlene "Dolly" Bodrick Hickman, entered into eternal rest on February 18, 2016. Dolly was born on October 29, 1956 in Richmond, Virginia to Mr. Henry 0. Smith and Ms. Gracie Mae Bodrick. At a very early age Dolly was nurtured in faith at Hood Temple African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. She became a member on September 7, 1975, under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. J. Oliver Hart. Dolly was extremely active in several organizations including the Flower Guild and Women' s Day committee. Dolly's additional Church Affiliation's include being appointed to the Steward Board in 2015 by Pastor, Tony D. Henderson, past member, assistant to the president and Financial Secretary of the Stewardesses Board, Life Member of the Women's Home and Overseas Missionary Society and served as Financial Secretary, Life Member of the Lay Council, member of the Voices of Zion Choir and served as Financial Secretary, and a member of Class #6. Dolly remained active and faithful as a member of Hood Temple A.M.E. Zion Church until her health began to fail. Dolly attended Richmond Public Schools and graduated in 1975 from Maggie L. Walker High school. She later attended J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College and Cosmetology School. On July 23, 1988, Dolly married the love of her life, James E. Hickman whom she greatly adored. Dolly was employed with Anthem BCBS as a Customer Advocate for over 28 years until her retirement in 2008. Prior to that time she worked for Dr. Wilburt Cameron's Dental Practice for many years and attended dental school under the tutoring of Dr. Cameron. Dolly truly enjoyed working in healthcare and helping others. Dolly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, sharing stories and simply remembering the good times. Dolly was an extremely passionate, kind, loving woman and a devout Christian who loved to talk and she didn't hesitate to let you know how she felt. Although quite outspoken, her kind hearted nature allowed her to be a friend to everyone she met. Dolly would often go above and beyond to assist anyone in need even if it meant just lending an ear. Dolly was preceded in death by her elder brother Andre Jerome "Mack" Bodrick and her god daughter Ava "Precious" Marcus both of whom she loved and missed dearly. Dolly was actually given her nickname by her brother "Mack", who would affectionately think of Dolly as his doll baby. Dolly leaves to cherish her memory....her husband of 28 years whom she loved dearly, James Emmanuel Hickman Sr.; daughter Candace M. Hickman; sons James E. Jr. and Jerrard E. Hickman; daughter -in-law Darnella Hickman; grandson Jayden E. Hickman; granddaughter Kennedy Clements; parents Gracie Mae Bodrick and Henry 0. Smith; brothers Michael Bodrick and Timothy Bell; sisters Tawanna Lewis, Tameka Harris, Cynthia Whittaker, Michelle Smith, Beverly Smith; mother-in-law Virginia Hickman; brothers-in-law Donald Lewis, Michael Harris and Rev. Anthony Pearson; sisters-in-law Rev. Linda Pearson, Melissa Bodrick and Beverly Bodrick, aunts Malinda Jones and Carolyn Bodrick; 16 nieces and nephews; godsons Donovan Eddleton and Dennis Wright; and a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends; including devoted cousins Gail Jones and Sandra Parham and devoted friends LeVione Smith Jordan, Veronica Spearman, Eva Marcus, Louise Jackson, Frances Shaw Fields, Amanda Johnson, Stephanie Hanoomansingh, Sabrina Bussey and Karen Isaac. Dolly's light will forever shine bright in our hearts and her smile and compassion for others will always be remembered.
