William Alfred Young
January 29, 1929 - January 18, 2022
Legacy of Life William entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at Piedmont Fayetteville Hospital, Fayetteville, Georgia. In gratitude, we celebrate the life of a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. William Alfred Young also known affectionately as “Douse” was one of nine children born to the late Carrie and McKinley Young on January 29, 1929 in Chase City, Virginia. He was also preceded in death by all of his siblings except one, Mrs. Clara Hardy. William dropped out of school at an early age to pursue work in Richmond, Virginia where he was immediately recognized for his strong work ethics and was paid a higher wage than his peers. This was extremely rare in the South during that era. He would reluctantly leave Richmond on the promise of family members living in New Jersey the opportunities were even greater. There, he met and married the love of his life Evangelist Shirley Young and went on to indeed have great success working in the Bakery Industry and at University Hospital. The couple invested in a two family home that provided them a life of leisure together since his only child Peggy and her two children Robin and Ira were adults with families of their own. This enabled them to travel to Europe, Caribbean Islands, Las Vegas, California, among other places. He would drive long distances to family gatherings and events well into his eighties. William, a well dressed, quiet and soft spoken man was well versed on life, politics and sports. He was still amazed of how far he had come from his humble beginnings. After years of hard work the couple retired and relocated to Union City, Georgia to enjoy a retirement lifestyle. At age of 90, his final trip was to attend his family reunion in Pocono, PA. As his health started to decline he began to spend more time at the hospital and rehabilitation center. William would call his wife to make sure she arrived home safely no matter the time of day. The pandemic did not keep her from his side despite the strict visitation policy. On the days he was transported to his dialysis treatment she would wait by the entrance door to greet him with a kiss and words of encouragement. William leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife, Shirley; daughter, Peggy A. Robinson-Tisdale (Furman) of Valdosta, GA; grandsons, Norman Robinson (Sabrina) of Fredericksburg, VA and John Robinson (Kelila) of Green Cove Springs, FL; grandchildren, Jahquan, Nayquan, and Jordan Robinson of Fredericksburg VA; Me’Kyle Whiting, T’onna and Arianna Robinson all of Green Cove Springs, FL; step-daughter, Robin Bartee of Union City, GA; granddaughters, Tiffany Bartee of Washington, D.C and Tracy DeBerry of Union City, GA; step-son, Ira Smith of Newark, NJ and grandson Aaron Smith of Indianapolis, Indiana; sister, Clara Hardy of Irvington, NJ; and a host of other relatives and friends. A special “thank you” to Sister Gwendolyn Glover of Union City, GA, his niece Roberta Hardy of Transcend Worship Center, Irvington NJ, granddaughter Tracy DeBerry, and niece Jacqueline Robinson of Richmond, VA for their assistance in helping his wife to complete their final journey together. ered into eternal rest on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at Piedmont Fayetteville Hospital, Fayetteville, Georgia.
