Shirley Elizabeth Goodson

Shirley Goodson entered this world on June 13, 1938 and went home to be with her heavenly father on February 2, 2023. Shirley was born in Baltimore, MD and was the third oldest of ten children born to John and Mary Franks. She was raised with two sisters, Lillian and Mary; and seven brothers, Calvin, Preston, Paul, Samuel, Jerome, James and Joseph. In 1952, she met Frank Goodson, Sr. They would be wed on October 27, 1956 and remained so until Frank went home to be with his GOD in November of 2021. They raised their family and were active and involved in the lives of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Shirley was employed by Baltimore City Public Schools. She would remain in their employment until she retired in 1989 to take care of her grandchildren. Her children hold fond memories of playing with her. She was the best jacks player in the world! Her daughter would be mad when she played because once she got her turn, she would never lose. Her grandchildren fondly remember playing Pitty Pat and I Declare War at their dining room table with her. She was also a long time member of the Christian Community Church of God, under the leadership of her pastor and nephew, Dr. Melvin C. Green, whom she loved dearly. Even after she was unable to attend services, she continued to support the ministry with her tithes. Shirley was a personality! She was outspoken, quick witted and blunt. If she thought it, she said it! She enjoyed talking on the phone and visits from her family. She also loved watching westerns, particularly movies with Cowboys and Indians. She also enjoyed music from the 50's and 60's. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Franks; her husband, Frank; her brothers, Calvin Franks, Samuel Franks, Paul Franks, James Franks and Joseph Franks; her step-daughter, Shirley Ann Player-Eldridge; her daughter, Earlma P. Granger and her son, Wayne A. Goodson. She leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters, Cynthia (Tyrone, Sr.) Blackwell, Sharon (David) Tomlin, and Angela (Mark) Cooley; one son, Franklin (Linda) Goodson, Jr.; two sisters, Lillian Johnson and Mary (Carl, Sr.) Martin; two brothers, Preston (Marion) Franks and Jerome (Mary) Franks; two beloved sisters-in-law, Lois Franks and Janet Franks; two life-long friends; Louise Albert and Carolyn Montague; four grandson, seven granddaughters; twenty-two great-grandchildren, one great-grandson; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
