Samuel R. Noble,, Sr.

SAMUEL R. NO BLE, SR., affectionately known to all that were dear to him as “Sam,” but was lovingly called “Noble” by his wife, Sadie. He was born the second son and child of the late Daniel A. Noble Sr. and Ursula Suiter Noble on March 14, 1928 in Brunswick County, Virginia. Sam had three siblings, two brothers and a sister. His older brother Daniel preceded him in death. Sam was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a very aggressive cancer and other complications deriving from extended exposure to asbestos at Bethlehem Steel, where he worked for over forty years, retiring in 1988. During his lengthy illness, Sam was attended to daily by his loving wife Sadie, his dutiful daughter, Wanda, affectionately called Michelle by her dad, and his doting granddaughter Quionné along with the staff from Veteran’s Hospital and Heartland Hospice. Assistance was also appreciated from special friends to Sam and the family, George Love and Anthony (Big Tony) Beckham, Sr., Sam’s sons, Tyrone and Reggie who made sure they pitched in when they could. Sam fought a good fight, but on Friday, June 3, 2016, he departed his earthly home to take up residence in his heavenly mansion; where he now walks around heaven all day in his well-deserved crown and robe of glory praising his Lord and Savior. Sam accepted the Lord at a young age and was a member of Southern Baptist Church of Baltimore City for over thirty years. He started his education in the Warfield, VA Public School System which continued in Baltimore City where he obtained a GED and later a Trade School Certification in steel working. Serving his country honorably, Sam reached the rank of Corporal in the United States Army, serving from November 1950 - November 1956, where he received an Honorable Discharge. An active and sociable man, Sam faithfully served as a member of the American Legion – Post 285 for sixteen years, and served as Chaplin of former organization which has since disbanded, called Club Charisma. The love for hunting and fishing was in Sam’s blood, which he passed on to all his children, often taking them on yearly fishing excursions on the bay. Other loves of Sam were frequent visits to various casinos, and the family’s traditional Friday night Pinochle games at his home with his wife, children and friends of him and his children. The house was so alive with trash talking, music, good food and drinks. This is a tradition that will be carried on, with Sam always in each player’s heart. On November 2, 1954, Samuel R. Noble, Sr. married the love of his life, Sadie P. Williams. It has been a beautiful sixty-two year union that bore them four children; three boys and one girl. His oldest son, Samuel Jr., transitioned this life in 2011. Sam will truly be missed by all who knew him. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Sadie; children and their spouses, Tyrone (L’Tanya), Wanda and Reginald; grandchildren, Erica, Nicole, Anthony II, Delores, Dominique, Quionné; great-grandchildren, Donté, Davon, Dashawn and Destiny; siblings and their spouses, Etha Johnson (John, deceased), and Rufus (Maybelle); sister-in-law, Margaret (Daniel Noble, deceased); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
