    Rita G Wilson

    November 29, 1948 - April 23, 2022

RITA GENEVA WINSTON, daughter of the late John and Thelma Woolford was born on November 29, 1948, in Baltimore, MD. She departed this life to glory on Saturday, April 23, 2022, after a lengthy illness. She received her education in the Baltimore City Public School System where she graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in 1966. She continued her formal education at the Baltimore City Community College majoring in Computer Science. Rita married James Winston (Deceased) and from that union one child was born, Michael Winston. She had a variety of working experiences, initially working at Dunn & Bradstreet followed by employment at the Social Security Administration and later retiring from the State of Maryland Department of Assessment and Taxation. Rita loved the Lord. She was a faithful attendee of various churches and at one time being a member of New Shiloh Baptist Church. After her retirement, she was a regular attendee of the Wednesday noon day service at the New Psalmist Baptist Church until the onset of the pandemic and her failing health. Rita had a passion for civil rights and human rights. She demonstrated this passion thru volunteer work at the food kitchen in downtown Baltimore. She participated in various marches for civil rights in Baltimore and Washington DC. Rita was an avid reader. She read the Bible in its entirety five times for relaxation. Rita enjoyed hand dancing, bus trips and family gatherings. Some of her favorite places to visit were Orlando, San Diego, and Boston. She especially enjoyed talking to family and friends on her old school cellular flip phone. She never missed her old tv shows like Andy Griffith and the Lone Ranger. She liked family gatherings and east Baltimore reunions. She had great affection for her trusted companion, Michael’s dog Sebastian Peabody. She leaves to cherish, son, Michael Winston; brothers, John Woolford and Warren Woolford; one sister, Bernadette Brooks; two sister-in-law, Beverly and Betty; two aunts, Wilhelmina Harris and Amy Dunlap; one uncle, Ernest Woolford; god-child, Sherri Smith, Rosie, Doll and family; Mary, Dell and family; and a host of other relatives and friends.
