Ricky Lee Brown

On February 9, 2023 Ricky Lee Brown departed this life peacefully at MCV Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his father Zab Artis, step-father Alexander Jordan and his oldest brother Ernest Brown. Ricky was born April 16, 1961 in Richmond, Virginia. He attended Richmond Public Schools. Ricky was a hard worker and acquired several trades and skills with limited or no specialized training in several areas from cement finishing, welding, electrical repairs, plumbing, lawn care services, odd jobs and so much more. If it needed fixing, repairing, removal or whatever, Ricky was the man for the job. Ricky also comes from a family of singers and musicians and ministers. Ricky was an active member of Glorious Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor Thelma Jordan who is also his Mother, so he was doubly blessed and favored by God. He and his siblings were taught the fear of the Lord at an early age. Ricky was known for creating sounds and songs that flowed from his heart and he was very passionate about making a joyful noise unto the Lord, literally. Ricky assisted and served in several capacities within the ministry which included ushering, (aka security check point). I mean nothing and no one got by Ricky (the kids already knew), a specialized musician, buildings and grounds maintenance, and anything his hands could find to do. Ricky loved praising God with all his strength and might. One of the songs he composed many years ago was “Jesus the Savior of This World” which we sang as a family group. Ricky also had an eye for collectables of all sorts. What was junk to others was precious commodity in his sight. Ricky was a cheerful, outgoing and peaceful man. He was a very positive and loving person who brought so much joy and laughter to everyone in his company. He always kept a smile on his face even during his darkest moments. He enjoyed having a good time with his family and friends. Ricky enjoyed spending quality time with his HP (Highland Park) family and friends and would always share a word or two about the goodness of God. If you didn’t know Ricky you weren’t a true HP native. He genuinely cared for and looked out for his neighbors in many ways. For instance, he often distributed food to neighbors, friends and loved ones through personal means or church donations. He was a true missionary. He also love sports and dancing. He was a diehard Washington Commanders (formerly Washington Redskins) fan. Ricky leaves to cherish his memory his mother Pastor Thelma Jordan, his son Zyon Brown (Ashley), granddaughter K, three (3) brothers, Johnny Richardson, Jr. (Regina), Stacy Jordan, and Jermaine Jordan. Five (5) sisters, Martha Richardson, Mary Howard (James), Brenda Jordan, Velma Geter (Dwayne), and Tracey Hines (William). Also, a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends, and one devoted nephew Andre Richardson (Jalima) who became Ricky’s daily companion during the critical days of his illness. He also leaves to cherish his memories his beloved friend and companion Deborah Herbert.
