It is with overwhelming sadness that we announce the passing of Pushpa Rani Sokhey (née Bharadwaja) on March 28, 2021. Pushpa was affectionately known as “Rani” to her close family and friends. She was an incredibly devoted, passionate, strong and elegant woman with a heart of gold, who was cherished by her family and friends. Rani bravely battled cancer over the past three years, defying odds, and lived graciously and courageously with it until the very end. During that time, she also dealt with immense heartbreak and loss, as she had to manage the sudden passing of her husband, Amarjit Singh Sokhey, the love of her life. Despite this, she continued to be a pillar of strength for her children and her family, ensuring that his spirit lived in every beautiful moment. She fought valiantly every step of the way and managed severe pain and moments of uncertainty with dignity, poise and strength. She expressed love by cooking and feeding others, her humor through her sharp wit and quick smile and she inspired by example and action. Rani was born in Burma (Myanmar), where she grew up in a loving, extended family. It was with great perseverance and determination that she emigrated from Burma to India and then to the United States in 1971 with her husband. Upon settling in Baltimore, they created strong roots in the area. Rani started as a Chemist for the City of Baltimore and quickly elevated through the ranks until she retired as the Laboratory Administrator in 2008 after 32 years of dedicated service. She was very active in her community and easily made lasting personal and professional connections. Rani is survived by her loving family, including her daughter, Nami, her son, Sandeep, her daughter-in-law, Bhavini, as well as her five grandchildren – Simryn, Sureena, Priya, Kareena and Arjun. She is also survived by many dear family members and friends.
