NANNIE LOUISE PHILLIPS “NAN” daughter of the late William M. Phillips and Elsie Coley Phillips was born on May 1, 1931 in Battleboro, North Carolina. She got her wings on Friday, March 19, 2021 after a long illness. She attended First Baptist Church in Battleboro, North Carolina. and was baptized at an early age. After moving to Baltimore she joined Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and later became a member of Little Ark Missionary Baptist Church both in Baltimore, Maryland. She moved to Greenville, North Carolina in her early twenties and worked as a nanny and housekeeper along with waitressing evenings and weekends to support her children. She later moved to Baltimore, Maryland. And became employed full-time at a Dry Cleaner and part-time at Bugle Laundry for a few years before finding a nanny/housekeeper job which she worked until retirement. She enjoyed socializing with her family and friends in her spare time. She loved taking trips to North Carolina for Reunions and Gospel concerts with her cousin Jane Dorothy and Atlantic City with family and friends. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Ann Phillips; three brothers, Henry Phillips, Levon Phillips and William M. Phillips; and a loving grandson, Troy Smith, Sr. Nan leaves to cherish and celebrate her memory three sons, Tommie E. Phillips who was her caretaker for over ten years, Johnnie Phillips and Allen Phillips all of Baltimore, Maryland; a daughter Mazie Jennings (McArthur Sr.) of Severn, Maryland; six grandchildren, Veronica Myers (Mike), Nichelle Crowell, Twonetta Underwood (Derigus) McArthur Jennings, Jr. (Markell), Donald Smith, Jr. (Jennifer) and Yolanda Murray (Thomas); twenty great grands, six great-great grands; three nieces, Marthea Lewis (Dennis), Zanjala Murray and Sheila Phillips; five nephews, Gregory Hunt, Wade Phillips, Jerry Phillips, Arnie Phillips and Levon Phillips; a special daughter, Brenda Gadson who was always there when needed; and a host of other close relatives and friends.
