Myron Kermit Dates

Myron K. Dates was born on November 23, 1951 in Baltimore, Md., to the late Howard and Juanita Dates. Myron was the youngest of three sons from this union. His brother Allyn Burnett Dates preceded him in death. On Monday, March 2, 2015 God whispered in his ear "Your Work Is Done" and summoned the angels to bring him to His heavenly home. Myron was educated in the Baltimore City Public Schools. He graduated from Douglass High School, where he was a star athlete on the swim team. He continued his education at Morgan State University and received his Bachelor of Arts degree. While attending Morgan, he pledged and became a brother of the Phi Beta Sigma, Zeta Chapter. Myron was formerly married to Ruth Dates, of that union there were no children. However, they maintained a close friendship throughout the years. Very early in life, Myron recognized the importance of working hard. He began his work career working part-time jobs after school and throughout college. His first full-tim employment was with Provident Hospital, as a manager in Medical Records. During his tenure there, he acquired many life long friends. Myron retired October 13, 2013, from Baltimore Health Start Program, Inc., an affiliate of Johns Hopkins Hospital as a supervisor in Medical Records. Myron had several passions. Swimming was at the top of his list, he loved the water, especially the ocean. Traveling, his first long distance trip was a road trip across the U.S., he also went to Brazil, Hawaii and the Dominican Republic just to name a few. Last but not least,hanging out with his friends and family, just to kick back and have a good time gave him great pleasure. Myron was a man of great strength and independence, yet he was warm, caring and very personable. During his life, he enjoyed a multitude of life long lasting friendships, however, Myron had a special bond with Larry Newell, a childhood friend and Anthony Edwards (Petie), a friend from high school. He also maintained a special friendship with his sister-in-law Patricia Dates and her entire family in Richmond, Va. His good taste, style and swagger set a tone that will long be remembered and treasured. He leaves to cherish their many memories: his brother, Howard Dates III; two nephews, Howard Dates IV, Richmond, Va. and Duane Dates (Sandra), Perth Amboy, N.J.; three cousins, Evelyn Downs (George), Rene Morris (Gene) and Kenneth (Gloria) Evans Sr.; and devoted friends, Ruth Dates, Pamela Wubishet and her sons, Gicachew Wubishet and Teshome Wubishet.
