Merritt Llewellyn Ashburne Sr. was born on December 9th. 1934, in Norfolk, Virginia, to Floyd Ashburne, Sr. and Luzetta Ashbume. Merritt completed his education at Norfolk State University College. He sang with the Ephesus Seventh-Day Adventist Church Sanctuary Choir, and he played the guitar, inspiring his late son, DeAndre's love for music. He particularly loved people and was always known for his generosity, as he was always giving away money to the children of his church. He leaves to celebrate and cherish his memory his wife, Jannie Ashburne. children, Merritt Jones, Eugenia Jones, Monique Ashbume, Tonya Ashburne, Merritt Ashburne Jr., Tiffany Satchel, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
