Mary V. Young Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Sis. Mary V. Young (Mae), daughter of the late Lester and Janice Mae Cureton was born on November 23, 1928 in Cabarrus County, Concord, North Carolina. Sis. Young was called home on Sunday, May 16, 2021. Sis. Young received her education in North Carolina while working in the cotton fields. Sis. Young was the eldest of four girls so she learned at an early age to love and care for others. As a little girl Sis. Young attended 1st Christian church in North Carolina under the leadership of Rev. G. W. Roland. While in North Carolina she met and married the late Bro. James Young Sr. They shared a union for over 60 years before he was called home to be with the Lord on May 29, 2015. Sis Young moved to Baltimore in 1952. Doing days works and other jobs until she started her career as a certified geriatric nursing assistant, doing private duty. She started working with the late Ms. Mary Adler who passed in 1984. Then she began working with Ms. Adler's granddaughter and husband taking care of their infant son. What started out as a 6-week job ended up lasting until her retirement in 2002. Sis. Young joined First Emmanuel Baptist Church in 1975 under the leadership of the late Rev. James Wise. For almost 50 years Sis Young has been a faithful and dedicated member. Over the years Sis. Young was a member of the Senior Choir, The Flower Circle, The Sunday School Ministry, and a Missionary in the Earlier days. She was always there to support anything, especially if it involved the youth. (Ms. Lynda said, "If it involved our youth Mamma Mae was there!") Sis Young loved to watch and record The Young & The Restless and The Bold & The beautiful daily. Sis. Young leaves to cherish her memory her 3 children Brenda Young Cadwell of Concord, NC, Deborah Tate and James Young Jr, 5 gransons Kevin Young (Shelley), Karl Young (Toni), Michael Young, Pastor Curtis Mobuary (Pamela), and James Young III (Latoya); 1 granddaughter Tiffany Bibbers Burrell, 9 great grandchildren including Little Miss Tiffany Nichole (Her Pumpkin). 5 GREAT great grand babies and 1 on the way. Dr. Kevin & Lynn Murphy and their 3 children (Her special work family who she also helped to raise Seth, Megan, and Allison). A special niece Phyllis Lomack in Concord, NC. A host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, church family and friends. Preceding her in death: Her loving Husband Bro. James Young Sr., 3 children; Clarke L. Young, Thomas Young, Thomas Young, and Drucella "Cookie" Bibbens; Grandson Kelley Young; 3 Sisters, Elven Peeler, Geneva Spivey, and Verna Robinson; a special sister-in-law Francis Young.
