The Life of Mary Hawkins Mary Evelyn Mathis Hawkins, transitioned peacefully Wednesday, May 4, 2022. She was born on December 18, 1945 in Panama City Florida to James Arthur Mathis and Ruby Myers Mathis. Mary attended school in Bay County, Florida. She enjoyed visiting and being with family and friends. One day Mary met a young man who was stationed at Tyndall Air Force Base. They began to date, later marry and have kids. After a short time, Mary moved to Richmond, Virginia with her new family. Mary’s full-time job was loving wife to William Sr.; mother to Trometa Shawn, William Jr, Tammy; grandmother to Elijah, Noah, Jordan and Jaylyn; great grandmother to Greyson and mother in-law to Cynthia and Terry. She was committed, dedicated and passionate in her service, belief and faith to her God Yahweh, always striving and pressing to be all that He wanted her to be. She served her church family and pastor, (Refuge Temple Assembly of Yahweh) with joy and such great, unselfish love and care. She participated in almost every church ministry. 25 years ago she started an intercessory prayer group and continued to do so up until the very week she went home. To all who knew her, she was just “Mary”. She loved doing things such as sitting on her front or back porch to watch all of her wildlife friends such as deer, groundhogs, birds and more. If she saw deer, it was a special treat. She really enjoyed cooking, hanging out with friends for meals, retreats, prayer and other activities. Having her family around meant more to her than anything. Mary is survived by her wonderful husband of 57 years, William, Sr, affectionately called, “Bill”, two daughters: Trometa Shawn Hawkins and Tammy Blackstone (Terry- 5/4/2021), one son, William Hawkins, Jr (Cynthia), grandsons: Elijah Alexander Hawkins, Noah Xavier Hawkins, and Jordan Tyre’ Blackstone, one granddaughter, Jaylyn Alexandria Blackstone, one great grandson, Greyson Hill Blackstone, one brother, Gene Mathis, Jacksonville, Florida, sister in law, Olivia Massenburg, two brothers in law, John Hawkins, Sr, and Marvin Hawkins (Gladys) and a host other precious family members, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends & neighbors. Mary was preceded in going home by her parents: James Arthur Mathis & Ruby Myers Mathis, brothers: Pine, Leo, Daniel, Andrew & Charles Mathis and one sister, Dorothy Jean Mathis Duncan.
