Mary Elizabeth Brown

On Friday, December 31, 2004, MARY ELIZABETH BROWN went home to be with the Lord. She was born on September 25, 1944 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Maggie Elizabeth Smith and the late Henry Joseph Smith, Sr. Mary received her formal education in the Baltimore City Public School System. She also attended Essex Community College, where she obtained a certificate in Electronic Technology. Raised in a Godly home, Mary began her Christian walk at an early age. She was baptized at Trinity Baptist Church under the late Rev. Dr. Volley V.K. Stokes. As a child she faithfully attended Sunday School and BYPU. Mary was also a member of the Youth Choir. As an adult she served her church in many capacities among which were Vice-Chair of the Trustee Board, member of the Women's Guild, the Finance Committee, the Food Ministry, and the Senior Ministry. In August 1969, she married the love of her life, the late LeRoy Brown. From this union of over 31 years came four children, the late Sharon Curtis, Michele Williams, Keith Curtis and Lisa Stanton. In 1987 God called her oldest daughter, Sharon Curtis home, giving her the opportunity to raise three of her grandchildren, Curtis Shaw, Crystal Shaw and Tyrell Brown. Mary was a fun-loving person who always had a smile on her face. She had something good to say about everyone. She mothered and nurtured everyone who came in contact with her. She had a generous heart and would put other's needs before her own. Mary enjoyed bowling, movies, dinning at fine restaurants and attending plays. She loved sports, especially boxing and football. Her favorite football team was the Baltimore Ravens. Above all, her greatest joy was cooking. Every Sunday night you would find generations of friends and family at her home for dinner. Her favorite phases of advice were, "You have to let go and let God," and "You have to trust God on this one." Mary worked for several corporations in Maryland. She worked for Western Electric for 16 years and ADT for over 5 years. She received numerous awards arid citations from both companies.. Mary was very proud of the awards she received for her professional excellence in the area of customer service. She leaves to cherish her memory: son, Keith Curtis; two daughters, Michele Williams and Lisa Stanton; two brothers, William Smith and Henry Smith, Jr.; a sister, Carolyn Tubman; fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sons-in-law, Anthony Williams and Kenneth Stanton, Sr.; a daughter-in-law, Luril Curtis; three aunts, Evelyn Knox, Molly Smith, and Marion Smith; a devoted niece, Antoinette Tubman, two devoted friends, Michelle Butler and Pamela White; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
