    Mary Betty Carter

    December 8, 1929 - January 18, 2022

    Mary Betty Carter daughter of the late Otis and Bettie Mae Williams was born on December 8, 1929 in Halifax, North Carolina. After a short illness, she departed this life to suffer no more and obtained her just reward, eternal freedom on January 18, 2022. Mary also known as Betty Mae, BC, Mary Mae, and best of all Moma received her early childhood education in Halifax North Carolina. She attended Frederick Douglas High School in Baltimore City. She worked at University of Maryland, Social Security Administration, daycare provider and a certified foster parent. In 1944, she met and married the love of her life, James Leroy Carter. From this union eight children were born, three of which preceded her death Evelyn, Beverly and Pama. Being a loyal and faithful servant of God, she was a member of Shiloh Christian Community Church for over fifty years where she sang on the Chancellor Choir. She was a dedicated homemaker who love family gatherings. Betty Mae love to cook and fellowship with family. Whenever you visited her home you never left hungry, even at the age of ninety-two, she ended her day with a cold pepsi and a peppermint patty, Although her earthly presence is no more. The memory of Moma will always be in the hearts and minds of many for years to come. Betty Mae leaves a vacant spot in our hearts and she will truly be missed. She leaves to cherish her memory three loving sons James Jr., Gregory, and Anthony. Two loving daughters, Ernestine and Natalie; one son-in-law Charles Shaw Sr., sixteen grandchildren one proceeded her in death Dante' Carter, Quinton (Charese), Charles Jr., (Jacqueline), Vonte' (Maxie), Derrick (Lynnette), Sherri, Tiran, Matthew, Justin, Donte, Shymeka), Evelyn, R'Vey (Arnold), Ashley, Asia, Cierra and Anthonette, twenty-seven great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, one sister Aretha Braswell, two sister in laws Vera and Cynthia Carter. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other children that she raised as if they were her own.
