Mary L. Butler
May 23, 1936 - March 18, 2022
MARY LOU BUTLER was the fourth child born to the late Joseph S. Bell Sr. and Atha E. Bell, who passed away when she was a little girl. After the passing of her mother, her father Joseph moved her and the siblings to North Carolina to stay with family, as he worked for the railroad which kept him away from home. Mary was born on May 23, 1936. Her siblings Joseph S. Bell Sr., Betty Bell-Farris, Willie Lee Bell-El and her twin brother Paul Lee Bell, all preceded her in death. In 1942, Mary moved to Baltimore, along with her uncle “Pete”. They attended Baltimore City Public Schools, as time permitted. Mary married Harry C. Butler Sr. who preceded her in death and had a son Kevin, known as “Cabbie”. Mary gave birth to eight children Chris, Kevin, Sarah, Clara, Vivian, Mary, Christine and Harry Jr. Mary L. Butler, known to some as “Mother” at First Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, was baptized on May 30, 2020 by Brother Webb. She said right before the baptism, “You got me”. Brother Webb smiled and said, “I got you” and he proceeded with the baptism. (Acts 19:4,5). I, her daughter, heard my mother sing songs of praise, as the Lord Jesus Christ touched her heart and mind continually after her baptism. Beforehand I’ve never heard my mother sing any songs (Psalm 145:8-13). She was a kind-hearted and compassionate person, tender-hearted who loved people especially babies and children. A loving and giving spirit, she was always. She kept her children clean, clothed and fed and loved her grandchildren. She leaves behind: her children; daughter-in-law, Carmella Bell; granddaughter, Czarina Bell, Clestine Bell of Las Vegas, granddaughter Chadana Smith of California and great-grandchildren, great-grandson Marvin E. Richardson of Elizabeth City, N.C., great-grandsons Mazere and Tony of Virginia Beach, grandchildren of Baltimore Marvin, Jamey, Ashley, Dawn, Lavon, Diamond, Lil Chris; sister-in-law, Ruthie G. Carter of Baltimore and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins in North Carolina, Texas, Baltimore. She appreciated the many times family came to visit her here and from out of town. She loved her family and was always happy to see them with a smile from ear to ear, also a special friend of the family Wm. Spencer Boyer Sr.. Two grandsons preceded her in death, Anton Watts (known as Tapoe) and Wm. Spencer Boyer Jr. (known as Hardrock). REVELATION21:1-4“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city New Jerusalem coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with man and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people and God himself shall be with them and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes and there shall be no more death neither sorrow nor crying, neither shall there be anymore pain for the former things are passed away”. JOHN14:6Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
