Legacy of Life Mary Isabell Bettis was born December 27, 1936, to the late William M. Jones and Leonora S. Jones in Hanover County, Virginia. She is preceded in death by her three sisters, Virginia Ann Jones Hall, Leberta Jones Anderson, and Wilnet Jones Wallace; along with three brothers, Douglas Jones, William Jones, Jr., and Judge J. Lee. Mary was educated in the Hanover County School System. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Holy Church and served as an Usher and was the “Church Mother”. She loved serving the Lord. In 1958, she married Kenneth Bettis and God blessed this family with raising three daughters. She was employed by the Chesterfield County Schools as a Custodian for over 30 years until she retired. In her leisure, she enjoyed riding out to the County in Hanover to visit with family and friends. She loved and cherished all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the extension to her heartbeat. Mary, a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend was unique in a thousand ways. She was loving, she was giving and we’ll miss her like no other. Mary loved her family and friends and would do anything for them. She was everybody’s “rock”. Although she was ill and her strength was waning, Mary never faltered because of her belief in her Heavenly Father. Mary’s strength, help, kindness, and love will be a lasting member. Mary was a very warm person where she always greeted you with a smile. We will love her forever and remember her as the one. Don’t grieve for me, for now, I’m free and I following the path God laid for me on Monday, December 22, 2021, to be with my loved ones that have gone on before me. She leaves to cherish her memory a husband, Kenneth Bettis; caring daughters, Mary Jones McCaskill, Deborah Bettis, and Kimberly Bettis; brother, Almer Jones; sister, Bessie Jones Shelton; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends; devoted friend and neighbor, Dolores Anderson whom she loved as a sister.
