    Martha Wilson

    August 11, 1927 - September 5, 2021

MARTHA LOUISE WILSON was born on August 11, 1927 in Towson, Maryland to Mary Grace Johnson and Thomas Norris. She was the youngest of four siblings. She received her education in the Maryland public school system. At a tender age, Martha met and married Alfonso Harris, and from this union seven children were born: Earl, Leroy, Roslyn, Lester, Nathaniel, Gwendolyn and the late Betty Joan (who died in infancy). Alphonso and Martha divorced after a lengthy marriage. Martha then met and married James T. Wilson Sr., and from this union came James Jr. Martha became the storm of single motherhood after the death of James Sr. Martha reared her six children in a content household. She worked three jobs to keep her family comfortable. Martha was a lady of good, clean spiritual means. Her favorite quotes were “Honor your mother and father that your days may be long with the Lord”, and “I put it all in the Lord’s hands because I can’t handle it”. Martha lived beautifully in spite of being rejected by those she cared deeply for. She was feisty, determined, a self-caring lover-of-life person. Martha enjoyed traveling— bus excursions, day trips, cruises and visits to the casino. She played her lottery, dined at some of the finest restaurants and drank her red wine whenever. Martha really loved the Lord Jesus and often said, “I’m gonna enjoy everything God has blessed me with in this life”. Martha was a surrogate mother to Gale Montgomery and William Horn. Martha leaves to cherish and remember: her six children, Earl, Christine, Lester (Shelia), Nathaniel, Gwendolyn and James Jr.; sixteen grandchildren (two predeceased her), fourteen great-grandchildren and fifteen great-great-grandchildren, a host of other relatives and friends.
