Maison Reid Smith

Maison Reid Smith was born on August 2, 1998 in Richmond, Virginia and survived by his beloved father, David L. Smith, and devoted mother, Debbie W. Smith, maternal great-grandmother, Irene E. Cooley, dedicated grandparents, Vincent C. West and Mary E. West, grandmother Edmonia E. Smith, aunts, Vicki W. Harris, Rachel C. May (Godmother), and Jacqueline Webb, and uncles, Tim May, Eric L. Harris, James Smith, Jr., and Raymond Smith, devoted great aunt, Janice Y. Jackson, and a host of loving cousins, dedicated close friends, and extended families, Reynolds family, Castro family, Rosete family, and Aaron family. He was preceded in death by grandfather, James T. Smith, Sr. Maison was affectionately known as “Zo” and “Mace.” Maison graduated from J. R. Tucker High School and received his diploma in 2016. Maison was employed with the United States Postal Service as a Mail Handler and well known for his strong work ethic. He was very ambitious and nurtured his entrepreneurial interest at the early age of 13 and utilized e-bay as a platform to launch his own business. He later cultivated his vision of establishing his own retail business and created his clothing brand, “Dstrc 4” that reflected his creativity and sense of spirituality. He was well known for his loyal, creative, and ambitious spirit. Maison possessed many personal interests that he nurtured such as drawing with his grandfather, Vincent and friends, designing tattoos, expressive writing, and the drums. Maison adored his two dogs, China and Ghost that he shared with his father. He had a strong affinity for dogs and fondly referred to himself as the “dog whisperer.” Maison had a love for beautiful skies and enjoyed photographing landscapes and skies that he enjoyed sharing with his mother. Maison had a passion for sports, fitness, and wellness. He was a member of the Richmond Pal Boxing Gym and trained under the direction of Coach Keith Hunter and Personal Trainer, Joseph Brown. He also enjoyed martial arts, soccer, football, and daily rigorous work outs. Maison embraced a strong work ethic and proved strident in his efforts toward achieving his life goals. He took great pride and pleasure in motivating, inspiring, and investing in his success as well as his friends. He enjoyed sharing comedic moments filled with laughter and proved passionate about his talents, dreams, and aspirations shared among family, friends, and his community. Maison embodied life, his heart was that of a lion and his spirit of a lamb. He will forever remain an inspiration.
