    Loretta C. Fleming

    August 3, 1941 - August 26, 2021

LORETTA CATHERINE PORTER FLEMING was born on August 3, 1941 to the late Edna Smith and Charles Porter in Baltimore, Maryland. Loretta was the first born child of Edna Smith, who later had another daughter, Edna Woodson. Loretta was raised in West Baltimore and educated through the Baltimore City Public School System where she later graduated from Frederick Douglass High School. After high school, Loretta received certification as a medical technician. She devoted her life to providing aide and service to the Baltimore City greater community at a number of medical facilities such as: Franklin Square Hospital, Patuxent Correctional Institute, and Spring Grove Hospital Center. On Loretta’s off time from caring for patients, she could be found spending time gathering with friends and neighbors playing pinochle and sharing stories. It was through her friends that she met and later married the late Edward Howard Fleming. From this union, they have one son, Ryan Edward Fleming. Throughout Loretta’s life, she showed her devotion to the community by extending her concern and warm spirit to her extended children of Edmondson Village/Gelston Drive. When she was not giving her tough love or warm hug, Loretta found time to shop and volunteer at the senior center. Loretta’s light dimmed on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after a long battle with illness. She joins her heavenly and earthly father and mother, sister, and husband. Loretta is survived by her loving and devoted son, Ryan; step-children, Dwight and Rhonda Fleming; three grandchildren, Rian, Devin and Cobi; soon-to-be-born great-grandchild, Devin Jr., and a host of family and friends
