    Lois Yates Via

    January 27, 1932 - July 10, 2021

On Saturday, July 10, 2021, Lois Marie Yates Via peacefully entered into eternal rest. Born in Richmond, Virginia on January 27,"1932, she was the second youngest of the four girls of the late Andrew Milton Yates and Marie Robinson Yates. She was preceded in death by her son, Randolph Douglas Brown, Jr. and her sisters and their husbands: Dorothy Y. Ross (Raymond), Lillian Y. Dobbins (Herbert), and ShirleyY. Brown (James). Lois was educated in the public schools of Richmond, Virginia. After graduating from Maggie L. Walker High School in 1949, she fulfilled her dream of becoming a nurse by attending the St. Philip School of Nursing (the former Medical College of Virginia) now VCU/MCV, which prepared and educated African-American nurses from 1920 until its closure in 1962. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, she worked in various hospitals and nursing home facilities throughout the Richmond area. She retired from the Richmond Nursing Home in 1990. Lois accepted Christ at an early age and joined The Good Shepherd Baptist Church. Through the years, she participated in many church activities, including attending Church School, Prayer Meetings, and the Senior Center. Although she enjoyed attending the Evangelism Committee meetings, she especially loved being an usher with Mrs. Louise Sayles and Mrs. Wimberly and being a member of the nursing ministry with Mrs. Dorothy Garrett. For a few years, Lois was married to Randolph Brown and from this union a son, Randolph (Randy) Brown, was born. After her retirement from nursing, Lois loved to travel, play Bingo, and sit outside in the evenings with her many friends at the Coventry Gardens Senior Apartment Complex where she resided for many years. She leaves to cherish her memory a granddaughter, Isis N. Brown of Tucson, Arizona, nieces, Linda R. Cobb and her husband Harold and Brenda C. Noble; nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a host of many loving relatives and devoted friends.
