Minister Lillie Bell Hockaday

Those who walk uprightly enter into peace: they find rest as they lie in death. Isaiah 57:2 Lillie Bell Hockaday, was born on October 2, 1927 to the late Doc and Alice Hines in Halifax, North Carolina. Sadly she gained her angel wings and departed this life on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at the young age of 93. She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene James Hockaday; four sisters Fannie, Edna, Arlene and Lola; four brothers, Jasper, Louis, James and Glen, all of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. She received her formal education in the North Carolina Public School system. She was united in Holy matrimony to Eugene James Hockaday on August 2, 1955 in Emporia, Virginia. Their union was blessed with three daughters, Imogene, Sherry and Janice. Later, she moved to Richmond, Virginia where she furthered her studies in Biblical Education. She then later received her recognition as Church Mother at the Glorious Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor Thelma Jordan. She continued to labor as a licensed Minister until she finished her course. She had a genuine love for God and ministered to many souls in her travels, operating in the gifts and fruit of the Holy Spirit. She loved to pray. Her life was a living example of her favorite Bible verse, Ephesian 4:32 – “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.” She was an amazing woman of God. She was a devoted, loving mother who enjoyed spending time with her family. In her leisure time she loved shopping, baking cakes and sewing. Her humble soul, bright smile, and joyous charm will remain in our hearts forever. She leaves behind to cherish her memory three adored daughters, Imogene Hines, Sherry Hockaday (Melvin) and Janice Hill (Chris); loving stepchildren, Larry and Janet; eight grandchildren, William (Tracey), Christopher (Sherika), Sheri (Jay), Samuel, Krystal, Britany, Victoria and Sarah; seven great-grandchildren, Jessica, Kaydyn, Maurice, Amauria, Amani, Tristan and Sheridan; son-in-law, Gabriel Mamudu; an extended family member that was like a daughter, Sheree Nichols; devoted niece, Dorothy (Walter); a compassionate niece, Marilyn (Willie); amongst a host of more loving nieces, nephews and caring friends. To have touched so many lives, bears testament to the fact that her purpose was divine.
