Leon Toland was born in Prosperity, South Carolina, on September 6, 1959, to the late Wade Toland and Bernette Toland. He was the second oldest of five children. In his infinite wisdom, God called Leon home on Thursday, May 19, 2022. Leon was educated in the Baltimore, Maryland Public School System. attending Northwestern High School, where he developed a love of sports, chess, and checkers. For several years, Leon worked as a Produce Manager at various grocery stores in the area, to include Pantry Pride, Shoppers and 7 Mile Market. For the past 5 years, Leon worked at Clipper Mill Apartments, as a member of the Maintenance Staff. Leon really enjoyed his job. He took great pride in doing a good job, not just for himself, but for the Clipper Mill community, residents, and tenants. On any occasion, you could catch Leon playing with the residence pets, making time to talk and laugh with the tenants, and sharing a special story with the residents and their children. Leon was especially proudly of his grandsons and would often brag and boast about their accomplishments and the sports they played. He enjoyed landscaping and maintaining his mother's yard. Leon loved family gatherings, spending time with his mother, and was fond of animals. Leon had an infectious smile that warmed your heart and lifted your spirits. He never complained. He looked at every day, as a blessing. He was loved by all that knew him. Preceding him in death, his siblings, Lorenzo Toland, of Neeses, SC, and Franceska Toland, of Baltimore, MD. Left to cherish his memories are his mother, Bernette Toland, of Baltimore, MD; his daughter, Stacey (Kenneth) Smith, of Westminister, MD; two sisters, Barbara Jackson, of Baltimore, MD and Bernice Toland, of Manhattan, NY; four grandsons, Kenneth Jr., Stacey, Christian and Joshua; ex-wife, Lavern Whitley, of Baltimore, MD; sister-in-law, Careletha Toland, of Neeses, SC; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.
