Laura M. Curtis Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

LAURA MATTIE CURTIS, beloved daughter of the late Hayward and Rosabelle Curtis, was born on March 6, 1926 in Baltimore, Maryland. On the morning of July 22, 2022 God called Laura home. Laura, affectionately called “Auntie” by all who knew her, received her education in the Baltimore City Public Schools and graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar Sr. High School. Laura loved her LORD and Savior Jesus and demonstrated her love as she fellowshipped at the Huber Memorial Church and until her health began to fail and she could no longer travel on her own. Laura then united with Faith Baptist Church, where she was received with love, under the guidance of Pastor Greggory Maddox. Laura was a very loving and dedicated caregiver for her (mother), whom Laura ministered to until her Mothers’ homegoing at 103 years old. After many devoted years of care giving, Laura went to work in the textile industry, and also for a U.S. Postal Service affiliate. Laura was also a very active 2nd generation member (mother) of the Improved Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the World (IBPOEW), where she served faithfully at the Frances Ellen Watkins Harper Temple #429, Tri-state Association. This organization promotes charity, justice, brotherly love scholarship, and fidelity and Laura exemplified these ideals throughout her life. Laura held various positions such as Door Keeper, Trustee and the highest esteemed honor of Past Grand Daughter Ruler. Laura also enjoyed marching and traveling with the IBPOEW and on occasion, taking one of her nieces along for the journey. Laura really loved family gatherings and would somehow come up with a witty come-back that would send the whole room into a laughing uproar. Auntie will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. Our beloved Auntie will live on in our hearts. She leaves to cherish her memory: devoted nieces, Jo-Ann L. Curtis, Regina Lynch, Rosemarie Curtis and Mary Jean Watts; nephew Louis Curtis; great-nephew, Keith Curtis; and a host of other relatives and friends.
