Larry Gibson
January 14, 1956 - March 4, 2022
LARRY GIBSON was born in Baltimore City, Maryland on January 14, 1956 and was raised by the late Helen Gibson-Boyd and Ellsworth Boyd. In Larry’s early years, his heartbeat was for basketball. He graduated from Dunbar Senior High School in 1975 with a full scholarship to the University of Maryland. Larry played basketball from 1976-1979 (1,198 career points) for the Maryland Terrapins. In the 1979 NBA draft, Larry was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks (3rd round, 8th pick, 52nd overall). Larry also played basketball in European leagues until 1986. After basketball, Larry married his current wife Delores Gibson and pursued careers at Home Depot and was a Driver for UPS. Tragically in 2004, Larry was involved in a car accident that permanently disabled him. Larry attended Day Break Adult Center where he loved the daily activities and games (Bingo) which seemed to always lift his spirits. Larry traveled as much as possible especially to Philadelphia and the Jersey shore. At the end of each trip, Larry always stopped in Baltimore to see family and friends. In Larry’s later years, he attended Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church and became a Deacon. On the 25th Anniversary of the 1979 University of Maryland Terrapins, Larry was honored at their home game. Larry is remembered by: his wife, Delores Gibson; son, Andrew Gibson; daughters, Lori and Melissa Gibson; sister, Frances Bean; nephew, Melvin Bean; niece, Tyra Addison; and a host of other relatives and friends including life long friends, Timmy, Mike and Charles (Bug). Larry had a smile that would light up the room, per the family. “Larry is a true Baltimore City success story”
