    Joyce Vatten Robinson

    April 29, 1942 - February 28, 2022

JOYCE V. ROBINSON was the oldest daughter of William and Mildred Robinson. She was born on April 29, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ called her home on February 28, 2022. Joyce completed her high school education in Boston, MA. At East Boston High School she completed courses in Business Machines, Typewriting and received an Accounting Clerk Certificate via the Manpower Development Program. She continued her studies at Roxbury Community College completing Word Processing, Economics, Mathematics and Accounting. Joyce was always working and excelled in everything she set her mind to do. She worked as administrator in Harbor Hospital Dietary Dept., Maryland. In Boston, she worked at Filene’s Dept. Store in sales, Saks Fifth Ave. as Head Cashier, Audit Clerk, performed other duties such as making deposits, completing credit applications and end of month financial reports, not to mention training personnel in accounting. She worked at the Division of Employment Security in the personnel office keeping statistical records for the “Step Training Program”, to encourage workers to find permanent jobs. Joyce was a member of the Ellis Memorial Adult Day Health Program in Boston for 11 years and she became their “resident artist”. Her journey began at the Tubman House with watercolor paintings. She created, donated and auctioned many of her paintings to support the center. One sold for $400.00 and two sold for $2,000.00 each. Her success at the center awarded her full tuition for studio art classes at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, MA. Joyce loved reading, watching movies, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and working brainteasers. She cooked, went to Barber school, and knitted blankets. In the end, Joyce most loved the latest fashions; clothes, shoes, jewelry, coats and for every occasion, she was dressed to impress. Joyce even received a certificate from an organization for the “Best Dressed Patron.” Joyce is preceded in death by her father and mother (William and Mildred) and sisters (Wanda and Kimberly). She leaves to cherish fond memories: her son, Shawn Robinson; grandchildren, Miesha, Derrick, Shawn Jr. and Rayshawn; great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Londyn, David, Benjamin and Dahmani; her brothers, William Jr., Richard and Gary; sisters, Delores, Renee, Toni, Jean and Hilda; brothers-in-law, Samuel Flemming and Trenton Bellamy; sister-in-law, Robin Robinson; aunts, Frances, Darlene and Wendy; and a host of other relatives and friends.
