Joseph M. Roberts, Sr.

Joseph M. Roberts, affectionately known as Joe, was born on July 21, 1941, to the late Lyle G. Roberts and the late Margaret Roberts Klain in Baltimore, Maryland at Provident Hospital. He departed this earth on May 2, 2016 after a short illness at Stella Maris Hospice Center. Joe received his education through the Baltimore City Public School System. After school he enlisted and served in the United Sates Army in the Vietnam war where he was the head cook for his unit. Upon return from his service in Vietnam, he came back home to Baltimore and took up painting as a trade. Joe worked with his brother at his company J.E. Roberts Painting Company for approximately twenty years. Joe moved on and began working for the State of Maryland as their lead painter. Joe retired from the State of Maryland around the year 1990 due to injury. Joe was married to Joyce East in 1976 in Baltimore at his mother Margaret's "Mother Klain" house. They lived in Baltimore together until 1993 and then moved to New Mexico. In 2012 they returned to Baltimore to be with family. While in New Mexico Joe lived up to his cowboy image and raised cattle, and wore his usual sharp western boots. Joe and Joyce also had several dogs, geese, and other animals on there several acres of land Joe and Joyce also had their own home healthcare business and took care of and gave many people their final home before their transition. Joe loved to race cars when he was a young man and loved to work on them. he liked to climb trees and taught himself how to cut them down and could cut and stack a pile in record time. He loved his dogs and was a fabulous cook. Although Joe had a rough exterior he was extremely loving and sensitive. He was protective of those he loved and his greatest joy in this last year was spending time with his new granddaughter Mia. Joe is preceded in death by: his father, Lyle G. Roberts Sr.; his mother, Margaret Roberts Klain; his older brother, Lyle G, Roberts Jr.; sister, Margaret A. Roberts (Peggie). He leaves to mourn his death: his wife, Joyce T. Roberts; his brothers, James E. Roberts and Eugene Roberts; his children, Joseph T. Roberts Jr. (Kim), Harry S. Brown III (Rose), Nicole R. Brown-Barkley (Donnie), David D. Roberts (Darlene); his grandchildren, Joseph M. Roberts II, Asia Roberts, Dominic, Maria, Imon, Shon, David Jr., and Mia; two great-grandchildren, Joseph Roberts IV and Marrari Roberts; his very special niece, Stacey Roberts; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and family.
