    Joseph Smith Charles Sr.

    May 5, 1951 - June 15, 2021

Joseph Smith Charles Sr., son of the late Daniel Rufus Charles and Hazel Fuller Charles, was born on May 5, 1951, in Baltimore County, Maryland. Joseph transitioned from this earth realm into eternal life at 4:40 pm on June 15, 2021. Joseph was a graduate of Pikesville Senior High (1970) where he was involved in "Track and Field" and was an excellent Football player for the school's "Baltimore Rams." Joseph went on to attend the Community College of Baltimore where he studied Human Anatomy and Physiology. Joseph has been a member of Christian Memorial Church all his life. He was a deacon, sand with the male chorus, ushered, and taught Sunday school. His two favorite songs were "Glad I got Jesus" and "I Love the Lord." Joseph was employed as a Maryland State Correctional Officer until he retired. Joseph had a "God given" talent/gift for art and was excellent at his skill. To this day several of his collection pieces are displayed in church. Joseph loved the Lord and his family. He had a personality that filled the room wherever he went. He loved to talk to everybody and was the life of the party. In June of 1998, Joseph met the God fearing, beautiful, bodacious, and amazing love of his life Marcella Charles. His nickname for her is "Marcie." On November 7, 1998, their love was sealed in marriage. To Joseph, Marcella was one of God's most precious gifts. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, brother Phillip Granville Charles and a Nephew. He leaves to cherish his memory; wife Marcella Charles; son Joseph Charles Jr. (Kendra); grand daughter Kayla; four brothers Rev. James J. Charles Sr. (Evangelist Martha); Wayne H. Charles Sr. (Myra Lynn); Timothy H. Charles and Paul Charles; two sisters Melba Mae Charles, and Valerie Charles Lovelets (Eugene); two stepdaughters Marcia Harris and Donita Lowther; step grandchildren; David, James Jr., Marisa, Breaisha; great-grand; Kasyn, and a host of relatives and friends.
