Jessie Lee Shields Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

JESSIE LEE SHIELDS, affectionately known as “ Leelee” was the fifth daughter of seven, born to the late Charles and Helen Williams Kearney on July 8, 1949, in Halifax, North Carolina. All 6 of her sisters preceded her in death–Louida Mallory, Shirley Seward, Mary Shelton, Margaret Kellam, Mildred Turner and Martha Shelton. Jessie was formally educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. She received an Associate Degree from Baltimore City Community College. Jessie was employed by the Baltimore City School System as a Teacher’s Assistant. Jessie accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior as a young woman under the leadership of the late Pastor James Nelson of Linwood Baptist Church. After the departure of Pastor James Nelson Jessue continued serving the Lord under the late Pastor Lorenzo Mallory. Under his leadership the Church’s name was changed to First Mount Carmel Christian Community Church. After the passing of Pastor Mallory, Reverend Edward R. McClurkin became Pastor. Under the leadership of Pastor McClurkin, Jessie served as an Usher for many years. Jessie enjoyed listening to music, playing cards, definitely taking all your money and talking trash while doing so. What she enjoyed most was kidnapping people’s children and loving on them as her own. Jessie was married to the late Preston Lee Shields who preceded her in death. From that union two daughters, the late Lisa Kearney and Coranette McCraw (Louis McCraw) and five sons, Ricky Thorne (Vickie Thorne), Shawn Shields (Tia Shields), Donte Shields (Quinn Shields), Marvin Whittington (Dream Whittington) and Jermaine Whittington. She also has one Godson, Stanley Jessie Kidd (Sandia Kidd). Jessie leaves to cherish 31 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, special relatives and friends. “We know we can’t have you here with us anymore, but we’re at peace knowing that the Angels have reunited you with your husband, daughter, mother, sisters and other special relatives.
