September 30, 1940 - November 16, 2021
JAMES THAMES, son of the late Cleveland Thames and the late Lucille Thames, was born on September 20th, 1940, in Clarendon County, South Carolina, as one of nine children. He accepted God at an early age. He departed this life on November 16th, 2021, after a lengthy illness. James and his family relocated to Baltimore, Maryland in 192. There, he received his education at Dunbar High School. James worked various jobs, but he had an extended career at the Crain Elevator and later retired as a Longshoreman at the Port of Baltimore. He met and married the late Dorothy (Thames) McPherson and out of this union four children were born: Courtney, Jeffery, Marsha, and Darryl. In addition to their children, they also raised Kennard and Angelia Anderson. James later met Gwendolyn Moore and had a daughter, Erika. James, “CHIEF” as he was affectionately called by those who knew and loved him, enjoyed playing the lottery, music, fishing, watching sports, talking politics, and sharing history facts. He loved those Ravens, he loved to cook, he stayed in the kitchen, and he loved his family. James is proceeded in death by Dorothy (Thames) McPherson; his sons, James (Courtney) Thames Jr., Jeffery Thames and Darryl Thames, Sr.; his parents Cleveland Thames and Lucille Thames; his grandchild Jeffery S. Thames Jr.; his brothers, Harry Thames, Joseph Thames, and Jacob Thames. He leaves to cherish his memories: his daughters, Marsha Thames and Erika Moore-Thames; niece and nephew (he raised) Kennard and Angelia Anderson; his grandchildren, Tiffany Thames, Courtney Thames, Taelor Thames, Donnell Lipscomb, Darryl Thames Jr., Isaiah Thames, Donchaz Hines, Jordan Watson, Javon Watson, Kennard Anderson Jr., Cornelius Woodson III; great grandchildren, Craig, Teon, Cash, Ajayi, Eliah, Cyra, Cyon, Avery, Aubrey, Caiden, Nova, Zara, Darah, Darryl III, and Dakota; his siblings, Julia Somerville, Betty Thomas, Samuel Thames, Jerry Thames, Michael Thames; godchildren, Cornelius “Hooks” Smith, and Samantha Manigualt; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members and beloved friends.
