On Friday, February 4, 2022, James Phelps Jr. departed this life. James came down with pneumonia and his health declined in a very short time while at Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital. James was born on March 9, 1944, to the late James and Leanna Phelps and had one sister, Mamie Sewell who preceded him in death. James's family was small but the love they shared was big. James loved carrots so much as a child his dad starting calling him Peter Rabbit which later became Pete. He graduated from Baltimore City's Douglas High School where he ran track and received several awards and trophies. Upon graduation from high school, Pete began working at Epstein's and remained there until he was drafted into the United States Army where he served honorably for two years during the Vietnam Conflict. While stationed at Fort Belvoir, Pete served as a cook and obtained the Expert Rifleman Ribbon. In 1972 Pete was honorably discharged and began employment with the Federal Government. He was employed with the Federal Government for about a year and went on to Morgan and Millworks, after leaving there he went on to Steiff Silver Company where he worked as a Silversmith. Pete had many other positions with various organizations and companies until he was injured at work in 1996 which left him disabled. Once Pete recovered from the work injuries, he spent many days picking his great-nephew, Joshua up from school spending time with family and close friends. Pete always had stories to tell about his childhood and family. Pete enjoyed watching the soap operas, Young and the Restless and the Bold and the Beautiful. Pete loved a phone call but not when his favorite soap operas were on. Pete enjoyed life on his terms an was usually a quiet peaceful man. Pete leaves to mourn his long-time companion Carolyn Couplin, one daughter, Shallice Phelps, one daughter-in-law Michelle Phelps, one grandaughter, Kyndai Phelps, one niece Armie Sewell-Haskins, one nephew-in-law Gregory Haskins and one great-nephew Joshua along with a host of relatives..
