Henderson Smith Jr.

Henderson Smith Jr. (better known as June Bug) was the son of Mary Jackson-Smith and the late Henderson Smith Sr. He was born on February 9, 1951 in Anniston Alabama, Calhoun County. He was preceded in death by his father Henderson Smith Sr.; nephew, Harvey McKnight and great-nephew Isaiah McKnight On Monday, April 4, 2022, God called Henderson to his heavenly home. He would often say "when my time is up on earth, I want to go peacefully" and God granted him his request. At an early age, Henderson, his parents and sister Cora move to Maryland and soon relocated to Baltimore City. He received his education in the Baltimore City public schools and later enlisted in the Navy. Henderson worked as an Asphalt Laborer for many years at the American Asphalt Company where he retired. Henderson accepted Christ at an early age. In 2010 Henderson, his mother and sister joined the New Cornerstone Baptist Church where he remained a faithful member. June Bug didn't mine letting God know how grateful he was through his songs and praises. In 2015 Henderson married Darlene Chaney- Smith and remained a loving and devoted husband. His marriage was filled with love- unconditional love that will always be cherish. June Bug often talked about how much fun he had with his family especially his cousins because he loved to play and joke. The love he had for his mother (Aunt Mae) could not be measured. They had a special bond that no one could break. No matter how early or late it was if she needed anything he made sure she got it. Henderson leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Darlene Chaney- Smith; mother, Mary Jackson - Smith; sister, Cora Lee McKnight; a great niece, Brittany McKnight; a great-great nephew, Kaden King; a step son, Thomas Chaney (Crystal) ; a nephew, Darrell Wise; a niece Monay Chaney; a life-time friend David Tomlin Jr. ( Buddy) all of Baltimore, Maryland; a host of cousins, in- laws; other relatives and friends and his New Cornerstone Baptist Church family.
