    Gwendolyn Y. Spurlock

    July 25, 1951 - May 11, 2022

“I have fought a good fight; I have finished my course and I have kept the faith” II Timothy 4:7 Gwendolyn Yvonne Spurlock was born July 25,1951 to the late Walker Heiskell and Deloris C. Latney in Richmond, Virginia. She joined Rock Spring Baptist Church at an early age. She participated in the early six o’clock Manna in the Morning Services with Reverend Paul Flowers. She also participated in the First Union Baptist Church Prayer Line on Monday and Thursday morning. She was married to the love of her life Elvin L. Spurlock Sr., for 53 years. She was a devoted employee at Hanover County Public School for many years and was a member of AARP - Chapter 5407. Gwen was a wonderful wife and mother. She also was a great support to many of her family and friends. In her spare time when she wasn’t caring for others you could find her on Saturdays playing bingo or eating crabs and in church on Sundays. Our beloved Gwendolyn was called home to be with her loved ones that have gone on before her on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at home after a brief illness. Beside her parents, Gwen is preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia A. Moore (James) and Geraldine Thornton (James); and a special friend, Geneva Spurlock. Gwen is survived by her loving husband, Elvin L. Spurlock Sr.; two children, Elvin L. Spurlock, Jr. (Janice) and Antron Larmont Spurlock; grandchildren, Asha Johnson, Dejza Muse (Nell), Amisha Johnson, Jamon Spurlock and Aniya Johnson; great grandchildren, Damiyah Bell, Nova Muse, A’syn Johnson and Milan Spurlock; brother, William Latney, Jr. (Shirley); five brothers-in-law, Howard Spurlock, Robert Spurlock (Gertrude) and Curtis Spurlock (Corliss); four sisters-in-law, Ernestine Wills, Elsie Barner (James), Blanche Jackson (George) and Shirley King (Bernard); three aunts, Rosa Bullock, Francine Booker and Francis Brown; four nieces, Lynette Moore, Maria Smith (Lynn), Kimisha Thornton and Shirkelya Latney; four nephews, Vincent Moore (Sharita), James Moore, James Thornton III (Frances) and Jermaine (Maxine); god-daughters, Chandra Moore and Tashawn Spurlock; loving friends, Ruth Jones, Ernestine Wills, Phyllis Brooks and Rhonda Moore; two special friends, Ava Tunstall and Mabel Carter.
