Gloria Marie Jones Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

GLORIA MARIE JONES, affectionately called “Mama” to her family and close friends and “Ms. Glo” to her co-workers, passed peacefully on May 14, 2022. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She was born March 16, 1930 to the late Lillian and Maurice Jackson Sr. and raised in Baltimore, MD. She received her education in Baltimore City Public Schools. In 1946 she married the late Bill Jones Jr. She received her day care license at BCCC. Gloria held many jobs but made her career at Social Security Administration. She worked part time for many years at a day care center before going into her regular job. She retired from SSA in 2002. After retiring from SSA she volunteered at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School and James Mosher Elementary School. Gloria was raised Catholic and was a member at St. Pius and St. Bernardine’s churches. She later converted to Baptist, accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, and became a member of First Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist Church in 1987 where she was a faithful member for 35 years. While at First Mt. Olive she served as a youth Sunday School Teacher. Gloria was loved by her family and friends. She loved caring for her grandchildren and great-grands. For many years she cared for the great-grands after school where she held Bible Study every day before they did their homework. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Angela Jones and Marlene Lofton; and four brothers, Maurice Jackson Jr., Robert Williams, Raymond Williams and Richard Williams. Gloria leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Rosemarie Spence (Richard Spence); brother, Phillip Jackson; grandchildren, Steven Spence, Carlos Spence (Bettina Spence), Stephanie Kanney (Ricardo Kanney), Gerard Campbell (Sherita Campbell), Ashely Heckstall and David Jones; fifteen great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild; special niece, Linda Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
