Flossie Mae Lewis

December 10, 1941 - August 22, 2021

FLOSSIE MAE LEWIS was born on December 10, 1941 in Bethel, North Carolina to the late Walter and Rosa Lee Carroll. She departed this life Sunday, August 22, 2021. Flossie attended Bethel Union High School. She was one of few black women that held a job as a school bus driver while still attending high school (the #77 bus). Flossie was in a beautiful and loving marriage with Ben Lewis for over 50 years. Flossie was employed at Westinghouse and Allied Signal for many years. She loved gospel music and enjoyed sitting on the porch with a good crossword puzzle. She also enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Adored by neighbors and family friends, she was known as the “#1 Neighborhood Mom”. Flossie accepted Christ at an early age and later joined Shiloh Christian Community Church. Flossie made friends wherever she went and will be sincerely missed by everyone that knew her. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ben Lewis; sisters, Rosa Mae, Mattie Frances, Barbara Joyce, Emma Lou; brothers, Walter Carroll Jr., Marvin Carroll; daughter Stephanie Witherspoon; and grandson, Kesmond Lewis. Flossie leaves to cherish her memory: sons, Kelvin Carroll (Marinieca), Reggie Lewis (Dawnyette), Joe Lewis; daughters, Angela Mooring (Jamie), Deborah Gibson; honorary son, Will Smith (Patrice); sister, Elizabeth L. Carroll of North Carolina; 22 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
